people, listen. I'm serious now. Why would Rog retire? He is ranked #2 in the world. He loves playing. He won W last year. it doesn't make any sense to me. he should just keep going till he can.

Gosh, I'm a Fedtard now, I think  ..-)

Welcome to the Dark Side, Alex;-() :))

Federer will play until next olympics, there are no young players coming up and he knows the established player very well to always have a chance to upset them.

I'm beginning to think he'll play to 37-38.
Then we will fight in the shade.

I have a feeling doubt is settling in Federer's mind now and he might be thinking if its time to call quits. I hear he's playing Brisbane next year so I'm not sure how soon the announcement will come.

Ya gotta wonder.
For one so confident and used to winning easily against the lower ranks, it will be interesting to see how long he is willing to tolerate the losses.

He has lost 3 matches to 3 players with 2 of them above 100 in the ranking and 1 at 55. I read that Fed attributes the loses to back injury. How much credible is the story I do not know. Fed doesn't just lose to 3 lowly-ranked players in a row too often so its impossible to say he's claim is just an excuse. The only other time I remember such thing happened was in 2008 when he lost to Nalbandian and Fish in straight sets but those guys had already proving that they can beat anyone on a given day. So this is new territory for Fed losing in a row to 3 guys with one barely having 4 lower-tier titles.
Its surprising to see the discrepancy in his form from last year. It all began with losing the WTF to Djokovic in straight sets and wasting his time playing those exhibitions in Brasil instead of either resting or trying to improve.

You can only improve so much at 32. He has just lost the slight edge in speed and natural strength that youth brings. He can probably continue where he is now for another year then drop further in the rankings.
I won't say he needs to retire because that's completely his decision. If he feels comfortable becoming a player that may win a round or three in tournaments, with the possibility to get to a final now and then, if he feels comfortable being ranked #20 or #30 instead of top 5, then he can continue playing as long as his body allows him to continue.
It is a bit sad to watch a player, once so great, go through this, but everyone does. It's inevitable.
