In answer to your question general, yes, Federer is in Melbourne. He did take a side trip and visit Singapore a couple of days ago for a Credit Suisse event as he is their "ambassador" and had an interesting press conference where he talked about a variety of things. There was one easy to miss comment near the end of the press conference in relation to a question about changes in tennis over the last 10-15 years (style, equipment, court speed), where he said heard that the Australian Open courts might be a little bit quicker this year, but doesn't think it will be a drastic change.

Other than that, instead of participating in one of the warm-up tournaments, he has been practicing. Here he is at Melbourne Park's Rod Laver Arena yesterday. Notice that he practices against two players...
