The crowd loved it and Novak certainly knew how to charm them all in the Courier interview.

All in all, a very good night for tennis and for tennis in Australia in particular.

The crowd, and Courier, and the TV audience would have loved going home +1 hour earlier and no one would have felt cheated that they "only" saw a 4 hour match.

Anyway, it's coming.

No, that's not so  . You have to have been there to have a feel for what those small hours AO matches are like. I think the relative compactness of Laver is partly responsible for the crowd involvement.

Lots of good things in life pass away    but I don't particularly mind if I have already experienced them.

Impossible to have these matches @RG, @Wimby or USO(5th set tiebreaker). This kind of match is what makes the AO special.

They certainly can't happen elsewhere. In fact, they only happen with great defenders too scared s**tless to pull the trigger. Credit to Stan for being the aggressor all night. Unfortunately for him, the surface favors the chickens**t player with godlike defense. For worse or for worse, that's the way of today's game.

It was a shame that Tipsarevic had to retire but I'm not surprised after his 3 five set matches before this one.  I couldn't bring myself to watch the Ferrer / Nishikori match in the 2nd set. A disappointing performance by KN. 

I find Djokovic's celebrations OTT.  What is all that about?

To be fair some of Djoko's defensive gets(mostly on the backhand) were amazing studies in flexiblity, balance and racquet head control. Those are tennis talents just as valid as hitting powerful groundies from inside the baseline. Why this prejudice against different styles? Djokovic is probably the best athlete in tennis history.

To be fair some of Djoko's defensive gets(mostly on the backhand) were amazing studies in flexiblity, balance and racquet head control. No dispute there about Nole.

I've always been a fan of aggressive tennis. Your guy, for instance, would never get bogged down in tedious rallies. Stan was slugging his way past Nole's defense for 14 games then got weary. Fed has never punched himself weary. But Stan simply doesn't have the complete package.

Of course, it's personal preference. I find tennis matches with multiple 20-30 shot rallies tedious. Other folks want every rally to go +30 shots.

djoper will be "fresh as a daisy",
he can play quarters and semis  5 hours each and win in 6 hours final against Murray!
is it "egg", is it Gluten-free diet (btw gluten is not Arsenic), is it something else?

couple years(2010) ago after long winning match against Federer in UO semis he lost final to Rafa because he had no energy left (even with extra rain day delay)
same 2010 lost to J Melzer QFs at RG in 5 sets.......and guess what: no energy for 5 sets win

2011 ......well we all know how that went 
2012....... only true dip in form was around  Olympic Games (loosing to Rafa RG final is no surprise and only luck saved Andy from djopers comeback after 0:2 in NY)
2013...... djoper wins 5 hours 5 set match...on non related issue Lance Armstrong admits doping
