Nobody seemed to find Azarenka has a sense of humour. No giggles from the crowd during the interview, no nothing, as silent as a graveyard. I think they thought that she tricked her way back into the match by going for a long toilet break  at 5-4 !!!

gosh, I was cheering for this young American girl so much. Azarenka is full of sh!t, sorry to say this, but it is what it is. She got broken, then she needs a trainer, bathroom break, whatever. then she has this 'cute' interview where she BS even more, 'Oh, I'm so innocent, young players go for their shots, uh oh, blah, blah.  :\ :\ :\

Stephnes is my new favorite player.

You are allowed to say it . . . it befits the occasion and it is exactly what she did. She took a chocking time out as Babs said. I can't believe she got away with it. Thats why the crowd kept mute during the interview. So pathetic !!!

This "injury-time--to-calm-down" or "injury-time-to-break-the-other's-momentum" time-out is nothing new and WTA players have been using this frequently at every level, from Slam Finals all the way to the small ITF Future tournaments.  People will attack Azarenka now simply because she basically admitted to taking the time-out to regroup from the injury, but where were all these so-called experts and media people for the last 10+ years, beginning with the 2002 Australian Open finals between Capriati and Hingis who basically took injury and bathroom time-outs at will whenever the other got the momentum.  This problem is like a plague in women's tennis, and in almost half of the matches that I have seen in 2012 on the ITF Circuit tournaments, whenever a player loses the second set and faces a third and final set, it's almost automatic, she takes a time-out to go to the bathroom or fakes an injury time-out, usually it's back or shoulder, and the trainer will come and do a mock massage for a few minutes  (I would have no problem with the need to go to the bathroom - but when it happens at the end of the set regularly and initiated by the one who just lost the set, that's something else).

One good thing that could come out of this is that perhaps Azarenka's "lesser" hypocracy will trigger some sort of pressure on the WTA to do something about this ridiculous rule.  Because if she basically lied like all women's players who have regularly pulled this trick for over 10 years now, there would be no reaction, and WTA would have kept turning a blind eye to it (just like the tennis media personalities who are blowing smoke since the match ended, where were they until today?  I don't remember Brad Gilbert or Pam Shriver attacking any other player who did exactly what Azarenka did).  Azarenka did what we have been seeing regularly, the only difference is that she unintentionlly publicized the general hypocracy with her interview statements.

I am guessing that if she begins to take some heat during the press conference or in the next several hours, all of a sudden the official story will change to "back injury" or "irregular breathing" etc. to make it legit and at the same time, save WTA's behind.

Where were you and everyone else when Fed took his "choking/panic break" after Davydenko smothered him for a set here in Melbourne a few years ago? s**t, where were you guys when I was screaming foul and calling y'all hypocrites for remaining silent? Remember, it wasn't a foul because the 7-8 time Stefan Edberg Award winner did it? If you were right there with me, Mert, post a link to that article. It's pretty hypocritical to bash the WTA when the GOAT is pulling the same shenanigans. Looking forward to reading your article from 2009 or 2010. I'd like for others to get someone other than my POV with respect to Roger's shenanigans.

Thanks in advance yo!

EDIT: Come to think of it, Xavier Malisse took a long MTO at the SF of Wimbledon. Came back and played phenomenally. (I know about his heart condition.) Seems like another case of the boys taking advantage of the rule.

EDIT 2: Djokovic was a MTO waiting to happen for years, which is why I'm delighted to see Alex take up arms against the WTA. Lmao!!

Mertov, you are right.

the thing is Azarenka took the worst possible moment 'to refresh'. another problem is, she 'the world #1', took her massage break against a 19yo girl. not cool at all. that's how cowards behave.  just so selfish. If Azarenka did this against Serena I could 'kind of understand'.

I really don't know what's wrong with the WTA nowadays. Graf would never do anything like that, or Seles (i.e. when Seles got stubbed, both Graf and her mother came to see Seles in the hospital).  Navratilova or Evert used to leave to one another little messages (supporting each other, win or lose)  after their historic matches . They had (still have) class and dignity.  that's what I call a fair play.

so, zero respect for Azarenka. she wanted to win at any cost  :mad1:... sorry, it's not sport any more. I wish I didn't even watch this match. just disgusting  :\.

That was the start of the second set and immediately after that Davydenko broke Federer's serve, so what's the point of screaming foul when the foul is on the fouler himself. In fact Federer afterwards explained that he was on some medication and had to have regular toilet breaks.

Fed got smothered and Azarenka'd right after the first set. Once he got control of himself, he rolled Davydenko. Remarkably, he took no more breaks.

Dude, you're several years too late to litigate this one now. Should have talked to me about it then. It was chickens**t and only his apologists accept rationalizations to the contrary. But Mert has called out the hypocrites. Thank you for playing!!!

I dont see any reference to the Sharapova match. She lost 9 games in 5 matches and won 4 games in the 6th.  That shows the WTA is divided and sub-divided.
1. There's the rot (below Sharapova)
2. Best of the rot (Sharapova and co.)
3. There's the average (Kuznetsova and co.)
4. Then the good (Serena, formely Venus only)

You pathetic fanboys are ridiculous. s**t I told T4U back in 2007 where you all would be when your favorite fell from grace. When you put your money where your mealy mouth is for at least a decade then show me your credential.

Until then, you're just a joker.
