Topic: Your thoughts on the clay season

Nole is out and I don't think that Murray or DP could hurt Rafa on clay at all. Murray never won anything on clay. DP goes hot and cold. Nadal looks good to me.

the only guy who could challenge him on clay is Djokovic. let's hope his ankle will recover soon.

When I think of the clay season, the first thing that I think is Paris and that I'll be there for the first week of Roland Garros. 

Have to agree with Alex to a point. I think Nole has as good a chance as ever to do something special in Paris this year.

OK, with Nole injured, his chance of taking the title in Paris has gone from "some" to "remote."

I wouldn't say DelPo can't beat Rafa on clay. He can outplay Rafa on slow surfaces, IW final 1st set showed that. Yes, it was a HC but slow as clay. Some guys like Murray are excellent slow HC players but clay just doesn't suit them. But DelPo isn't one of those guys, clay isn't a problem for him. But fitness is. In Bo5 against Rafa, straight-set win is almost necessary for Juan, and even the 3rd set may be too much for him. Even in Bo3, he'd almost need to win it in two. But I think he has the game for it, he just needs to play like he played 1,5 sets in IW F.

He did tire out in the fifth set.
 
 
So DelPo can go five, or I should say, should be able to go 5, hope he pushes his endurance because he's been beat enough times because of it.
 
When you have endurance you don't have to hold back much in set one, it just doesn't help at the end of a match but through the whole match.

And not only that but when you have endurace, you can play mentally more relaxed as you don't have the pressure to win the match in straight sets.

Getting off-topic for this thread but I want to celebrate Adam Nelson getting the Olympic gold 8 years after the games because of a doping case. He's one of my favourite sportsmen and I want to do my best to give him publicity as an Olympic Champion as he didn't get that honour when the competition was held.

I got: Delpo tires in the end. His fitness hasn't been up to par likely because he doesn't have the same power from both wings he used to possess.

I was going to say the same thing, except of course RG 2009 was not played on hard court. Regardless, I'd say three sets against Nadal is more taxing than four sets against Federer. We've yet to see Del Potro display that kind of endurance.
