i think the difference boiled down to 4 factors general duncan:

1. murray`s improved fitness
2. murray`s improved serve
3. murray`s improved state of mind. he has more belief now
4. fed not having his best stuff with him: his big serve and his devastating forehand let him down when he needed them the most. he had had always been able to call on those 2 shots to keep his edge in matches of this magnitude

also it had to happen sooner or later. fed is getting old and murray keeps improving. this is the first time murray has beaten roger in a slam.

true CD, Murray will only get better...
still Fed can't be written off just yet, he will remain a contender in the slams this year I think..with his best shot coming at Wimbledon

agreed. this might motivate roger even more. he was in the hunt here to the last minute.

grass suits his game the best. also the surface is less demanding.

roger is likely to spend more time on clay after rotterdam to fine tune his ground game and also to keep himself healthy.

i know nole practices year around on clay. if only nadal had been born bright enough.

Ann :kisses:

You make a top 10 then  :)

Duncan.  :kisses:

Now you know how long it takes me to put one of those together.

hola general duncSANITY. i saw that match until fed went down 0-3 in the 5th. that is when i decided to grab some sleep.

ann i did not follow soccer until recently. i am reading now that he was an ac milan legend.

He was Samson. Was at the club from boyhood and played for the first team at the age of 16. An excellent defender and a very cultured footballer indeed.  Milan retired his shirt when he finished playing.

Andy was brilliant. Roger was sub par.

I know its only natural, but its painful to see such a bright star slowly fade..  :(

Now you can understand why Sampras ended on a GS win.

I think Rogers best chances come at Wimbledon and US Open now.

roger did not have his best stuff---he serve and the forehand---when he had to have them.

andy played as well as i have ever seen him play. his improved serve and his significantly improved fitness was the difference maker.

who do you like in the final?

Andy, in my opinion, is the real #2 player in the world and this final is the best possible outcome for an epic match.  I love Federer, but Andy is playing better these days.
Good Luck on the Court!!!

CD - I thought Roger fought like great lion king he is, but lost to the younger male in the pride.
Then we will fight in the shade.

CD - no it doesn't. Nole & Andy are a class above on hardcourts. Nobody can stand up to them.

roger proved that he is still among the best of the best.

with his old forehand and his old serve he wins that match. the serve and the forehand let him down in key moments.

also he was not effective enough at the net. he was not really able to take the net away which is what he did at wimbledon.

#1 - the serve & forehand were not clicking until the 4th set
#2 - the drop shots do not work against Andy, just don't bother with it
#3 - his fitness let him down. He needs another 1-2 training blocks to get back to peak fitness in time for Roland Garros.

I have a feeling this Roland Garros is gonna be epic with Nadal's return and Nole/Andy/Roger in peak form at the same time. It will truly be a battlefield of the gods.
Then we will fight in the shade.

One thing that was interesting to me was Roger made only one backhand shank the entire match and the rallies were generally played at a very high pace, so that's a shockingly(good) stat for him. I'm sure Roger will not be despondent over this loss. In a way it was an improvement on last year's 4-set loss to Nadal.
Then we will fight in the shade.
