hey guys i have an idea to float around and see what people think:

of course people will have convince general javier of this since he controls the volumes:

here is the idea. why not reward those people volumes who have the most posts in the volume. and the minimum number should be say 400-450.

so if you meet the minimum criteria of 400-450 and then you have the most posts then you qualify to fire up a new volume. assuming of course you want to open one.

i have seen it at other places. i hear this idea is wildly popular.

now it would not apply to me since i am posting nonsense all the time and my post count would be off the charts just about all the time.

now with the warmer months coming i will step up my riding big time so my post count will decline but i do not need to pariticipate in this anyway.

this will basically for the others who want to take some glory as we set one record after another here with respect to new volumes.

so another words, win yourself a volume. now we have to see what general javier thinks of this idea assuming you all like it.

Hello all!  Glad to see so many enjoying themselves in the Castle.  That's what it is all about. We all lead different lives, but occasionally we can chill out here and welcome the others that visit.

I don't know how many were able to watch the Nadal - Zeballos final.  Zeballos played very well for the most part. He went for the lines, went for some risky drop shots, sometimes too much, but fortune favors the brave as they say.  As for Mr. Nadal, what can I say.  He has been off for 7 months. During many of those months, he obviously had his mind and body away from tennis.  So I'm not surprised he was not able to win his first tournament back in action.  I thought (in FITD) that he would lose in the SF to Chardy, but Chardy played surprisingly horribly to me, considering his relatively good form in Australia.

To me there were 3 main things that contributed to Nadal's loss (not necessarily in the order listed below):

1. Movement. His movement was not as good as I usually have seen it on clay.  Well, I suppose we can put this down to two things. He had said his knee his still hurting some and preventing him from making certain movements. Secondly, he does not appear as fit as he could be.

2. Return. His return was generally not good.  He did break in the first game of the 3rd, but it was mostly due to a Zeballos let down after winning the second set tiebreaker, not anything special by Nadal.  Other than that, Nadal wasn't coming close to breaking Zeballos, and return of serve is usually one of Nadal's biggest weapons.  Perhaps Zeballos was hard to read, or Nadal just had an off day.  But fundamentally, he is still standing about as far back as he can without being in the crowd.  This just invites him to return much shorter than he shoud, or be susceptible to slice serves.

3. Fitness.  Nadal could be more fit.  He was somewhat fortunate to be playing Zeballos who played aggressively, going for lines and drop shots many times.  On the few rallies that lasted awhile, Nadal was winded more than I thought he would be. On the other hand, Zeballos also looked like he might have lost his legs for a few games, but it appeared that he got a second wind just in time.  If Nadal had to play some of the very fit players counter punching players like Murray, Ferrer, Djokovic, I think he would be in serious trouble.  Hopefully he gets more fit.  I don't think adding doubles to his tournament schedule helps in the fitness category.  He needs to be doing a lot of swimming or something like that, something that doesn't put too much pressure on the knees, but allows him to get wind and leg fit.

Basically, I think he probably could have done more to help himself while he was out, but maybe he needed a mental rest as much as the physical one.  It's not good news that his knees are still bothering him enough to hamper his movement.  He has to hope that pain goes away soon, or I can't see him competing deep into big tournaments with the top guns... and we are not even talking about hard courts here. He's got to do it on clay, before he can expect anything good to happen on hard courts.

Respectfully,
masterclass

excellent post general mc.

he is better off forgetting about hard courts. you can see what they have done to him and his game. it is a little too damn obvious.

now the hard courts will end his career for good next. but he is not too bright so expect a career ending move next.

i informed people 5 years ago that hard courts would finish off his knee, his movement, and his only competitive advantage which was clay.

so you saw yesterday and the day before against chardy that he is useless now.

so i am not surprised but i am disappointed and not very happy with him.

now he can go brag some more about his bloody indoor hard court on his facebook page some more. nobody really gives a damn if he wins another match. i for one hope he never wins another singles match and a single tournament as long as he has exos on hard courts, doubles, golf, screwing around, and poker in mind.

if he does not curtail/cut back on the hard court activity and this doubles madness which is really what cost him the singles title in chile then he will remain useless.

and he will continue to fall in ranking. lets face it. he has proven that nobody can help an idiot.

his best days are over. an exit from the sport is next.

time to back off the hard courts---match play and practice--was right after he won the australian open in 2009.

that is when he should have built himself an indoor clay court and practiced there on year around bases. he would be sitting on 4-5 more slams if he had done that and his rank would have been much higher.

I'm not sure I like this idea general.  Some of us lead busier lives than others what with family, work, etc.  Some of us get here as much as we can reasonably do.  So if someone only has 20-50 posts in a volume, does that mean they shoud be excluded from starting a new volume?  Posts can be of any quality, from "hi, what's up", to posting pictures, to posting match analyses, tennis news, to anything really.  In the past, we've generally given anyone who wanted to start a volume a chance.  They had to wait their turn, but they still got the chance.  In the MTF castle of recent times, I recall some that posted more than 50% of the volume of posts, but I personally wouldn't measure those posts with much more than a cesspool meter stick.

Anyway, I think that anyone who wants to start a volume, that follows the guidelines on how to start or asks those who know for advice should be allowed, regardless of volume of posts.  We want to encourage people to come back as much as possible, not to restrict them because they are not posting enough.  Anyway, that's my two cents... :)  We can also take this in PM with Sir Javier if you would like...

knee issue is overblown and overhyped. other athletes have had far worse injuries in a lot of other sports and they have come back stronger than ever. many have played right thorugh the pain and the difficutlies.

there were about 10 other ways he could have take his fitness higher than ever even with that knee issue during those last 8 months. he failed to do it. he wanted to improve his golf game and his poker instead.

so he shows up with 15-17 extra pounds. who the hell is going to feel sorry for him.  he does not want to be a warrior anymore.
it is complacency and it is also quit. he quit. now he will have to live with that unless he can prove the world wrong and win another RG this year.

the reason nadal is useless today in this sport is not because of the knee issue. it is because he quit.

you make a great point general.

of course that was just an idea that i saw being used at a couple of other forums. they are using at at the "brigade" thread at TF for example.

i never said i liked the idea. i just threw it out there to make some conversation. its what the people like that matters.
