i was about to ask for the the stream generalito. roger is leading 4-2. so the first set will soon be over. :))

i will have a look at the match now.

is general viruzzz still around? i was going to ask him if he saw the del potro battle.

I'm right here!
I just came home, I missed the Fed match, damnit!
How was it, general?

The Delpo - Gulbis match was a great display of tennis, in the 1st set Gulbis was definetely the better player, but some stupid desitions in the tiebreak made Delpo took the set. The 2nd set was the contrary, Delpo creating break points, with a confidence boost and demolishing the latvian.
IMO, Gulbis should have won the first set, and surely it'd had been a different battle it that happened.

Fed thru to the QFs to face Benny. Could be a tough match or not.
Then we will fight in the shade.

del potro has such deavastaing easy power due to his size. he is nearly 6 foot 6.

roger has to improve his serve and his return in my opinion. but he is not doing too bad.

How was it? How did Fed played?

couple of great shots but de Bakker doesn't have the (indoor) Hardcourt baseline game to test Fed.
only stayed close because he has a relatively big serve.

Fed played like he got stuck in second gear.

i think serve is one thing that you can hold on to and even improve with age. roger needs to think about adding another 5-7 pounds of muscle mass.

he can put a little more weight behind his serve. getting more effective mileage out of that already big serve will go a long way against guys like nole and murray.

also he has to improve his return.

People, check this out.Amazing.
Tim Man - January 2012

holy smokes. where did you find him? who the hell is this guy.

unbelievable skills.

The guy is Tim Man.He is an actor, stunt performer, action choreographer and martial artist .

Nole should add him to his team... those skills would make him even more unstoppable.  Can you imagine the already superflexible Nole doing backflips to get to a ball hit behind him?  :)

Respectfully,
masterclass

That'd send Rafa into huge depression, Andy would sack Lendl and cry in his hotel and Rogy would retire immediately. :))

Hiring Thomas Muster's old fitness/training coach was a great move for Mr. Djokovic.  If Rafa had had the good sense to hire him first, when he had his various knee troubles, things might have gone differently for him.  But he didn't, stuck with Uncle Toni, and the rest is history.

Novak has to be one of the fittest tennis players on the planet right now, if not the fittest :)  Only quick strike tennis can beat him on hard courts, and that only works consistently on the faster ones like Cincinnati.  No one has a chance at Rod Laver.

Respectfully,
masterclass

nole seems to do a lot of things right general masterclass. he does not say NO to improvement and change like nadal  does and you can see the difference.

nole also does not have a golf, poker, and computer games problem. he is focused on his work.

he hired a great aussie doubles player to help him with his net game

he hired a doctor to help him with his nutrition

he hired somebody to make him as fit as muster

he does not take short cuts

he does not play endless doubles and exos on hard courts

he practices year around on clay as much as possible

he is not crying all the time

he is out there doing it and making it happen

nadal said that nole is lucky with no injuries. horse crap. nole is smart like roger. that is why they keep playing and he is on the sidelines crying about everything.

Awesome post general.  If Rafa had done half of what Nole did to improve, he probably would have been sitting on 14 or 15 majors right now.

But Rafa is a creature of habits, look at him with his water bottles and pre-serve body massage routine.

water bottles and all those rituals is not the real problem general mc.
all athletes have their rituals to some extent.

the real problem is the absolute refusal to change the training and the scheduling.

and also the refusal to bring in outside experts to help with various things like fitness, the slice, and the volley.

so basically the refusal to change nothing. and all the while the field is constantly improving. even tony said in so many words that " we are not like in the years past". which means nadal is far removed from his 2008 levels. he made that one last push in 2010 because he worked hard on his fitness and he was focused on his singles game.

change is essential for survival or you perish. it is even more critical if you want to be ahead of the pack.

nole, murray, and fed are constantly looking for ways to be ahead of the pack. that is their #1 focus. they do not have 1000 other interests for that reason. they know that the career of an elite sports athlete is short. on the average that career has a short shelf life.

What does Nadal care? He's accomplished everything there is to in clay court tennis and he's won the career golden slam in addition. Everything is a bonus for him at this point.
Then we will fight in the shade.
