Nole and Rafa Go Back on Word?
« on: March 14, 2013, 10:29:52 PM »
Both are scheduled to play at the Mutua Madrid Open, even though they both said they wouldn't play if they kept the blue clay. Did they change the courts back, or did Nadal and Djoker go back on their word?

Blue clay was confirmed discontinued soon after last year's tournament.

Makes sense. Many of the players complained about it. And having two of the top players saying they wouldn't attend would definitely catch the tournament directors' attention. It was a cool idea, and it did look cool, but apparently not well made.

Fed's the only player to have won on blue clay for now.

Nadal and Djokovic complained a lot about it last year.
I liked it however.

Blue clay was a success for viewers. It was easier to see the ball than on red clay. Too bad they couldn't make it blue without simultaneously making it slippery.

I was nice, easy to follow the ball.

The blue clay was a disaster as a finished surface. It's true that it was perfect for watching, and I would agree for it to return, but only if they do something about it not being slippery. Problem is that if they manage to cut that out, I don't think it can remain a tad faster than red clay, as I think it was.
