Swish, seriously what's wrong with Fed's back. Only his fans talk about it. I must be missing something.  Now, if Fed loses it's because of his back. If Rafa loses it's his knees. I need to find an excuse for Nole for his potential defeats  .

And glad to see Kiri managed to come back. Luckily, Kvitova gave her the second set. Then Kiri took that opportunity and played great in the third set.

Gulbis gave Nadal some problems early. Well, a lot of it was Nadal giving himself problems. WAY more UEs than we're used to seeing. But now he looks to have found his form. Don't see him having much trouble through the rest of the match.

  I DON'T like seeing Rafa hit the ground like that. Since he's still a little fresh off of injury, it makes me nervous!

EDIT: The announcers REALLY need to drop the fanboyism. Did Gulbis pay them off or something?

yeah, Nole did have his fair share of retirements, allergies, hot weather and whatever (I hated it btw) but that was long time ago.

anyway, really enjoying this match. Both Gulbis and Nadal are playing very well. I'm surprised that Rafa is so aggressive. I love it. I think it's gonna be a tight third set.

Very good match from Gulbis, he's coming along very well. 
 
He can take his loss and work on a few things, get some rest.
 
He'll have to play qualies at Miami, they wouldn't give him a wild card.

Rafa made it. Gulbis played well ... so we get to see Fed/Nadal again after a thousand years  . the problem right now is how to skip girls and watch the Nole/Sam match.

More like one year than a thousand...last time was this tournament last year. And that being the SF, it is in fact marginally less than one year. Still, not the same aura as in years gone by. This used to be for the tournament victory. Now it's for a place in the SF with the tournament favourite being in the other half.

This got me thinking which rivalry has been going on for the longest with at least one meeting each year. Fedal's ten (barring a withdrawal today) is unlikely to be a record, but I'll try to find out what is.

He told the press he tweaked his back last match and the announcers talked about it too.
 
If you didn't see the match, his movement was limited some.

I did see the match and he looked fine to me. I edited my previous post btw, being cynical but whatever 

When Federer usually plays his BH, he is in perfect form. But now, you can see he looks quite awkward when he tries to crouch for the low shots or when he tries to straighten up for the high bouncing ball. His side to side motion on the baseline was also hampered - he let a lot of balls past him that he could have normally gotten to. And he has been serving with a shallower knee bend, like in the AO 2009 final and IW/Miami 2009.

So while I would love to see him win tomorrow, he doesn't have a chance in hell, with his serve, BH and movement hampered.

of any kind, audible or visible, between a player and a coach may
be construed as coaching.

Straight from the ATP rulebook.
I.E.  there should be absolutley no communication between a player and their box at any time during a match.

But hey, what the heck.
The tour lets him cheat on time between points, why not just let him hit serves from the T while we're at it....
