Ann since Nadal won by walkover, Paire is now your pick.

I hope John, Markus and the others read the post with my opinion about this in it otherwise I'm not going to spend my little free time again on writing such an 'essay' (long post).

I'm with that, but I'm not sure why Ann won't get Nadal as her pick. Rules state BUs are for WOs by your main pick. They say nothing about WOs by opponents unless I've missed something. Now, Raonic was not eligible yesterday because he wasn't on the OOP, you have to be scheduled to play. Nadal was today. The withdrawal came not only after the OOP had been released, but after the deadline for picks. If you think Nadal should not count, which rule do you use to explain this decision?

4. Only in the case of a walkover or a withdrawal of your main pick, each player is allowed to have a back-up pick, selected at the same time as their initial pick. That back-up pick will only be used in the occurrence of a walkover or withdrawal, as stated above. Retirements do count as completed matches.

(won by) Walkover or (lost by) Withdrawal. Nadal didn't play, if he won by stepping on the court and Mayer would have retired than Nadal would have counted. I always thought that was the rule.

This would mean the Nadal pick stands. Didn't we argue about this in one of the first tournaments?

I don't remember but Nadal did win by Walk Over, so I think that would imply the rule that the backup pick comes in action doesn't it?

It doesn't say whether your main pick wins or loses (and didn't come on court) the backup pick is activated.

"Withdrawal/walkover of main pick" should really be interpreted to mean him only. If you feel this situation is not as it should be, we can amend the rule to state "Withdrawal/WO by your main pick or his opponent". Whether or not this is an improvement is not something I feel strongly about, I can live with both versions, but as the rule is today Ann moves on to fight another day - hopefully without her cold.

Excellent memory, general! I must admit I'd completely forgot that one.

Ann is proving somewhat of a specialist in picking people to win by WO. Maybe she can cast spells?  :rofl_2:

Day 7

Anderson
BU:Raonic

You picked Anderson day 1, so Raonic is your pick unless you change it. Probably a good idea to nominate another BU.

Thank you very much for paying attention when I wasn't Markus. I've made Raonic my pick and nominated another BU.

Not a bad effort to get to day 7. Though if I could have one pick back, it would be Murray/Donskoy on the Sunday. Different choice there would've given me the option of taking him against Berlocq and leaving Del Potro for another round. But I suppose we can all say that about some of our choices and then we all might've reached the final. So nevermind. Lol!
