Nadal squeaks out the second set in a TB. He's been coming to the net a ton this match.

thats when last man standing and tiredness sets in. Even Nadal and Ferrer need shorter points.

Nadal completely ran away with the third set.

I dunno what it is about Madrid. Even though they ditched the blue clay, it still seems to be somewhat more slippery there than most clay tourneys. Dimitrov and Djokovic were both slipping all over the place when they played each other, and I saw Nadal slip frequently throughout the match against Ferrer.  :confused1:

Aren't those stadium courts temporary clay courts? Temporary clay courts are often bad, just think about Sao Paulo or many indoor clay courts in DC.

This was so expected  ..-) Ferrer always makes more and more errors as the match progresses, especially against Nadal

Don't like Berdych, but congrats to him and his fans.

Looking at a great tie break with Stan and Taonga. Go Stan!!!

Ugh. I hate Berdych. I hope Waw slaughters him tomorrow.

Also, congrats to the highly unexpected semi-finalist, Pablo Andujar! Too bad his dream run will come to an abrupt end tomorrow :)

I saw the players slipping quite a few times.
Nadal said the courts are perfect but that guy BS's so much you can't believe anything he says anymore.

What an interesting but bizarre tournament!  the top 4 players all out before the SF's & the best clay court player in the world playing a wild card entry in the semi-final!   :rofl_2:  It's a fantastic story for Andujar though.

Excellent match by Berdych to get through. He often lacks belief but he stayed focused this time & outplayed Murray.  Wawrinka is looking in good form too - there is something determined about him.  The Berdych/Wawrinka match ought to be worth watching.

And I see it is a Williams/Sharapova final.
Carpe Diem

Just watched the 2nd semifinal. Stan had broken Tomas in the opening game and dominated the first set, but Tomas gradually settled into a good rhythm and was serving incredibly well from the second set onwards. And so when he broke early in the 3rd set, I thought it was over. But somehow Stan engineered a comeback from 2-4 15-40 and won the match! Crazy stuff indeed.

With this, Stan's back in the Top 10. He's also on a 9 match winning streak, including 3 Top 10 wins (Ferrer, Tsonga & Berdych).

No. That was the case thru 2012. Crappy courts that were laid very late and never had time to settle. The facilities had doubled for basketball/tennis. But that arrangement with the Spanish basketball league ended as of 2012. These courts were completely rebuilt after last year's event, even raised 1 meter. They've had plenty of time to settle and should be perfect.

Altitude makes Madrid especially fast and tricky.

Where's my friend Rafa816? Rafito!! Like I said, no problem with your guy on clay. Efficient is what I've been saying!

Hard courts, anything but. You and I will have to put this discussion aside for now. Leaving for RG on May 25... no, you suck!

Monster!!! Look out, I've had a handful of margaritas! I might say "I love you, man" but not in a gay way, in a way drinking buds say to one another.

What was the topic...???
