Your thoughts on the clay season
« on: April 04, 2013, 04:24:15 AM »
How do you think the clay season pans out ? Who will win the events ?

I feel it will be very interesting at the top between Nadal and Djokovic . I also want to see how much Murray has improved on clay and if he can make a big run at RG if the draw permits him .

One word ................................................................................. Nadal  :)

Maybe Nole will get involved too. somehow I doubt it.

RG will be very interesting this year.

Clay is boring.

Really don't like to see this kind of play.
But it will be over in a few months so I can bear it.

When I think of the clay season, the first thing that I think is Paris and that I'll be there for the first week of Roland Garros.  :king:

Have to agree with Alex to a point. I think Nole has as good a chance as ever to do something special in Paris this year.

I agree with Alex. Nadal was looking back to full form in Indian Wells, so I have no reason to doubt that Nadal will dominate the clay season as usual.

Rafa is the FIRST to qualify for WTF this year! :D

Meh I don't mind clay season, even that's my definitely the least favorite surface. Actually what bugs me more, are those hard courts who act slower than clay  :)~

Back to topic, should be interesting though. Nadal coming strong from #5 to fight for #1.

Prepare yourself, dirty players incommming.   :)

Clay season is sooooooooooooooooooo predictable.  It'll be Nadal for everything.  Talk about not really having any 'specialists'.  Remember, there use to be 'clay court specialist', but now the only really great clay court player out there is Nadal and I predict he'll win everything he enters into.  So until the clay season is over, or until we get a tournament that Nadal is not entered in...don't expect anything less than victories by Nadal.  Just the facts...

IF Djokovic withdraws from Monte-Carlo due to the ankle injury incurred in his last Davis Cup match vs Querrey, I think Federer might be tempted to accept the Monte-Carlo wildcard if he feels he is ready.  But, he's been in the middle of intensive training and I don't know if he wants to interrupt his schedule, just to pick up Finals points (600) in Monte-Carlo.

Respectfully,

I don't think Fed will play. He goes by his own schedule.

Wow. If Fed and Djoker don't play, what's the point of even playing the tourney? Just give Nadal the trophy and the points.

Rafa is the FIRST to qualify for WTF this year! :D

its not that simple.

clay warrior has bad knees.

he still has to earn it. murray and del potro are very capable.

this is a much older nadal with bad knees. nadal also has failed to improve in nearly 4 years.

see you at the castle. I need to make you a super sig. you have to let us know about all your favorite players.

Well, I am sure several players with ambitions for improving their ranking would feel disappionted if MC was cancelled simply because they can't win it. Can you beforehand say who will lose the F, lose the SFs, QFs, R16s and R32s? If you can, then you should make a killing with the bookies. If not, try to find pleasure in the uncertainly as long as it lasts.

Yikes. I obviously wasn't being serious.

And Rafa is over the knee injury. If he can win Indian Wells, he can easily dominate Monte Carlo. And he has definitely improved in four years. Four years ago, '09. He won a great final against Fed at the AO, won IW, lost at Miami, dominated the clay season before the fall to Soderling at the FO due to injury that kept him out for most of the year. But he showed improvement in the very next year. 2010 was the best year of his career. He made the semis of IW and Miami. He won the 3 clay masters. And he won the French, Wimbledon, and the US Open. And a lot of announcers said he was playing the best tennis they've ever seen from him at this year's IW. He's vastly improved his flat winning forehand. And, although he ditched it (I dunno why), he had his serve greatly improved during the USO in 2010.

Rafa is the FIRST to qualify for WTF this year! :D

I didn't think you were serious, to be sure. When your favourite is overwhelming favourite to win a tourmanent, most fans tend to want to see it played out :)

I've just read this type of comment enough to want to reply to it once. It's not all about who wins. At least not for me. Some of my lesser favourites (I have several) will have done a good job if they get to R2.
