Lleyton Hewitt already lost to Martin Alund 4-6 6-3 6-1.  I must say Alund has a deceptively huge forehand.

Gael Monfils is also back in action, beating James Blake in the first round  :(. He says he is 100% healthy  :lmao: It's been a while. http://www.tennis.com/pro-game/2013/04/monfils-im-100-percent-healthy/47036/

Thanks for the thread, Lugburz.
I see your man Haas is playing here - it'll be interesting to see how he gets on.

Poor Hewitt - he was said to have trained hard at the beginning of the year & with Roche coaching him, I had hoped he'd be able to get beyond the early rounds in these tournaments.

Yeah, no problem, GBY.

I'm sad to see Blake and Hewitt both losing so early  :(

Isner / Sock in the 3rd set tie breaker. Poor play by JS, and JI gets through 7-3.

Monfils has Almagro by the throat- up 5-2 in the first set.  He takes it 6-2.

And now Almagro has Monfils by the throat - up 4-0 n the second set.  Perhaps the ATP is morphing into the WTA  after all! Is this the end of life as we know it???
Excellent play by Almagro to hold despite Monfils taking it to deuce a few times. He goes up 5-0.  Good job by NA - remaining focused to break & take the set 6-0.

Going with serve in the 3rd - 3-2 to NA with GM to serve next.  The shadows growing on court.

NA stayed focused & won 6-3 in the 3rd set.

6-3 6-3 Berankis.

Tommy was simply terrible, nothing worked today. Probably more focused on Monte Carlo, but still bad loss.

I don't really like the Houston red clay.

tommy was probably fatigued/weary.  he made a very deep run in Miami.

^^^ Clay Death,  Haas may well need a break. I believe he's pulled out of MC.  A pity he couldn't delight us with more magical tennis here.

Anyway, I saw Almagro against Monfils & Lorenzi & he seems to be playing to his strengths.   I wanted Berankis to get through, but as it is I expect an Almagro / Monaco final.  I like Isner, but find his game less than interesting.  As for Williams, he played well against Ramirez-Hidalgo, coming back after being a break down in the 3rd set to inch it.

The Bryans are likely to add to the contents of their trophy collection, but I'll be supporting Murray /Peers as the underdogs.

Schedule for Saturday, April 13, 2013

CENTER COURT Start 1:00 pm
[1] Nicolas Almagro (ESP) v [WC] Rhyne Williams (USA)
[3] Juan Monaco (ARG) v [5] John Isner (USA)
Not Before 6:00 PM
[1] Bob Bryan (USA)/Mike Bryan (USA) v Jamie Murray (GBR)/John Peers (AUS)

Monaco looked pretty solid against a very weak Ginepri.
Cool to see Robby willing to take his lumps in an attempt to resurrect his career.  Never really liked his game but he seems like a decent feller.

What a great setup for a tourney.
Similar to Newport.
Looks cozy for the fans.
A little cramped for the players. :(

I'm watching Almagro/Williams, and NA just broke again to win the first set 6-2.  RW looks somewhat deflated today thus far.  I hope its a good second set.

It looks like Monaco has neutralised Isner's serve. He is up 5-1, first set.  40-0 on serve so he might take it to 5-2.  Monaco serving better than I've seen from him before.

EDIT:  - superb turnaround by Isner to win it. Not only did he get his serve back by the scruff of the neck, but played a good game generally, going for his shots.  The body language worked well - JM tightened up, and couldn't get the momentum back.

So it's Isner / Almagro. Can the home crowd help their man to lift the trophy? I'm going for Almagro - he's looked really good out there all tournament.

And my doubles team, Murray/Peers beat the Bryans to take the title!
