Good luck to both tomorrow although I have a good feeling who will win. Sorry I haven't been posting a lot but I was diagnosed with pneumonia on Thursday so I'm trying to get well. Bummer!!

But good luck to Alex and good luck to all the Nadal fans here as well.

Finally got to watch some tennis!  :toot:

About as bad as it gets!  Two  :paper bag: :paper bag: worthy...

My prediction for the final.

Nadal vs Djokovic on clay 3x> Nadal vs Djokovic on hard courts  :PHEW:)

These two are turrible on hard courts! :cursing:

Sorry to hear you're ill Dallas, & all the best for your speedy recovery. Take care.

As for the final, what a surprise at the last 2 men standing!!!  It says a lot for the current game that no one could oust Djokovic despite his ailing ankle & Nadal, despite his dodgy knees.  Whilst the two finalists should be proud of themselves, the others should hang their heads in shame.  Except  Dimitrov, who played superbly & at least made a good effort, and Fognini, who surpassed all realistic expectations here.

As for the final,  if it goes on for two long, at least people can admire the view of the Mediteranean!   Good luck to both men.
Carpe Diem

60% was too high as Rafa was serving. Rafa seving for 2nd set.

I'll stick with 45% Djokovic.

The streak had to end eventually. 46 matches won in a row, longest streak in tennis. Nadal played well but no good enough. Djokovic was just better today. We will probably see more meetings between the two during the clay season.

Well this was a superb match by Djokovic, at so many different levels.  Firstly, he managed to run around despite his ankle!   :rofl_2:
No, seriously.   Firstly, he just blew Nadal away for the first 5 games of the match.  We are talking Nadal, mind you, the Maestro of clay & of MC.   He did it by diffusing any ability by Nadal to play to his strengths. Frankly, hats off to Nadal for getting a break against Djokovic in this set & holding a serve.  Losing it 2-6 was a good result, it could easily have been 0-6.
The second set was bound to be a better contested one. Djokovic would have been conserving energy, and Nadal was on the attack.  Yet, Djokovic got his break back not once but twice & took it to a tb. Nadal simply failed to consolidate any advantage in this match. When he got broken for Djokovic to take it to a tb, I knew it was over for Nadal. The result in the tb, 7-1 speaks for itself.

This win shows why Djokovic is such a complete player.  It isn't just the superb attacking ability & the formidable defensive powers, it is the ease with which he goes between the two. And his ability to be creative.  This is the game I like to see him play - to his strengths.  Some of the angles he got were just breathtaking.

Congratulations are due to Djokovic for showing how beautifully clay court tennis can be played, and for the manner in which he dismantled Nadal today.  Apparently, Cincinnati is the only 1000 series event that eludes him now.

Having said the above, I must also commiserate with Nadal.  He has attained legend-hood on this surface & in this event and should be proud to get to another final.  He was bound to have lost at some stage & there is no dishonour in losing to the world number one playing some of his very best tennis.  I'm sure Nadal will make his mark on clay this year again - there is still a lot of tennis to be played.

I see the Bryans are up 5-4 & serving for the first set against Zimonic / Benneteau.
Carpe Diem

My jaw hit the floor when Nadal got broken at 6-5 after seemingly sealing the by breaking Nole at 5-5.

Nadal generally played well today, but I don't know what was going on with his head. He is usually very strong, mentally, but not at all today. Every time he had an advantage, he blew it by throwing errors all over the place. It was a very painful thing to see  :(

Rafa is the FIRST to qualify for WTF this year! :D

Sorry your guy lost today.
On the good side is that Nadal has played a lot and isn't used to the season grind yet.
He still can play better.

I know he started his comeback this year very well but being out for so long and then playing a lot is too much too soon.

He is healthy however and now sees what he needs to work on so this loss may be a help for the rest of the year.
