Orange Wombat:
Well, no one opened this yet and it is a fairly big tournament. Nadal is playing this time, so no vulturing Ferrer  ;-()

Ferrer played a very good final, but lost both sets in the final games. IIRC he was leading at least the 1st set with a break. If only he'd have more mental strenght, he could definitely beat current Rafa by playing his best tennis.

This year he seems to have quite an easy draw to semis, and Almagro is a potential SF opponent. Hopefully Almagro doesn't at least lose it after serving for the match like at AO.

Rafa has some potentially tricky matches. It's gonna be interesting to see Nishikori's clay form, he'd face Rafa in QF. And Dimitrov is Rafa's potential SF opponent but he's in the same section with dangerous Gulbis and Berdych. And of course, the biggest challenge is already on R2, the almighty Warlocq.

So, there are some players who could outplay current Rafa, and Rafa seems mantally fragile right now. But still, only Djokovic and Zeballos have had the mental capacity to beat Rafa this year.

Clay Death:
rafa needs matches right now and lots of them. and he needs long practice sessions on clay. he can either do the work or watch everything get taken away from him.
he has wasted too much time not getting fit and also not training enough on the red clay.
all those 7 months off could have been used to do some more intense work on the fitness front and also daily practice sessions on the soft red clay.
now he is paying the price for that.
don't tell me he had a bloody inflamed kneed. you don't even need legs to have world class fitness, let alone an inflamed knee. that is right. there are people running around with zero legs who have achieved world class fitness.
he can go make his sorry ass excuses and I am sure some fool will buy them. we know better at tennis4you.
I agree with general august. Barcelona is not going to be as easy for him this year as it has been in the past. but this is a tournament he has to win now so he can get the right number of matches under his belt on the red clay.

Even after such great results in 2013, it's just shocking to see Gulbis has to qualify for Barca.
