Who is the most exciting player to watch in the top 50?
« on: April 24, 2013, 03:39:51 PM »
Make some lists or something and I will make a poll when I see the players listed.

My picks:

1. Tsonga
2. Dolgopolov (when he is not in error mode)
3. Dimitrov (wonderful athletic skills)
4. Nieminen (he's not extremely powerful, but he can hit some crazy angles)
5. Janowicz (complete ballbasher, but still fun to watch)

Umm......is Monfils in the top 50 still? And Gasquet. Looooooooooooove his backhand. And Harrison can be fun to watch if he's on.

Rafa is the FIRST to qualify for WTF this year! :D

Harrison is such a pusher  :rofl_2: But nothing is wrong with being a fan of pushers. I find Gasquet's backhand beautiful but he stands so far from the baseline and moonballs a lot. I find him more beautiful to watch but not exciting.

Monfils is not in the top 50 unfortunately  :(

Harrison rips the ball from time to time. And he has underrated defensive skills. And I can see where you're coming from about Gasquet, but personally, I get super excited every time he's about to hit a backhand. And a lot of times, the excitement is fulfilled :)

I remember when Monfils was in the top 10. It was great fun to watch him all the time. Bummer he's fallen so much. Did he get an injury or something? He would certainly be prone to one.

Rafa is the FIRST to qualify for WTF this year! :D

These are all my opinions, just how I feel watching these players. Also since I'm a player a lot of times I relate to people who I can emulate to some extent in my head, I'm 5'10 so I like watching guys like Tipsy, Nishikori and Baghdatis who are also under 6 foot and can really move the ball around.

Tier 1 Favourites:
Federer (complete package and pure artistry)
Tsonga (drama, power and so much skill)
Gasquet (Backhand, volleys when he comes to the net)
Dimitrov (lot of energy and athleticism)
Gulbis (same as Dimitrov, and drama and skillz)
Paire (skillz, wacky - I haven't yet watched Dolgopolov play surprisingly)

Tier 2 Favourites:
Djokovic (complete package, so solid and perfect combinations of everything)
Murray (lazy/fluid, kinda fun)
Tipsy (love his shotmaking)
Nishikori (love how nimble he is and his shotmaking)
Simon (smart counterpunching, and transition)
Baghdatis (drama and love the strokes)

Other players I enjoy but didn't feel the need to include in the list: Cilic, Berdych, Youzhny, Haas, Wawrinka and two of my old-time favourites not in the top 50: Nalbandian and Davydenko

sorry, but Janowitcz is an idiot. I don't know how anybody can find him 'exciting', plus his big mouth, no results. he is neurotic. I can't stand him and Tomic.  if you define someone who is stupid as 'excited' sure, I'll go with it.  sorry guys ... I've been watching tennis for over 30 years and there is nothing 'exciting' about Jan except his moronic interviews.

cheers,
Alex the b!tch

I am really going with Dimitrov here. He has improved so much during the past year, that I find myself asking if there is space for more improvements.

Tsonga & Gulbis for shotmaking ability and pure athleticism.
Oddly enough I like watching Simon and Ferrer though I hate their style of play.  I'm always amazed at how they are able to do sooooo much with so little.

If I had to pick one at this point in time I'd go with Tommy. :))
So much ability.
So little time left.
And a beautiful game.
CONK da ball!!!

Santoro is the GOAT of being exciting imho. (he's my favorite player of all time too  :)~ )

As for current tennis, you can never go wrong with a Hewitt match. Maybe not for his game, but for his exciting sounding C'MONS!

Game-wise Monfils is exciting, but sometimes too exciting  :rofl_2:

I sway more toward shotmakers, so enjoy watching guys like Federer, Haas, Tsonga, Wawrinka (more recently) and Nalbandian.  Always fascinated by the unpredictability of Dolgo.  He's great to watch.  With certain players, I love specific shots - Gasquet's cross-court backhand, Nalbandian's backhand when he's hitting those insane angles, Nadal's running forehand and Djokovic's DTL backhand.
