the bottom line is that roger`s backhand never broke down.

people would understand if they actually played the sport at a high level and had an awesome topspin backhand.

the arm gets tired hitting that massive topspin backhand after about 3 hours in a match.

now imagine what happens against somebody who hits heavy topspin that jumps.

nadal worked roger`s backhand not to break it down anyway. he worked it to open up the court.

also it is more natural for nadal to hit crosscourt forehands than DTL forehands all day. the net is higher and the distance is shorter.

he prefers crosscourt forehands as he should.

anyway roger would start to miss once the arm would start to tire.

I love Haas and Wawa's backhands. Roger had a very good backhand back at his peak- just because Nadal knew how to expose it didn't mean every other player could. He still has a great slice but the topspin backhand has declined.

GGL too inconsistent.
In my opinion. :)

Agreed, but peak GGL has a pretty nice 1HBH  :)~

I like the GGL backhand too. he has considerable variety off that wing.

First of all, I NEVER said Fed's BH sucked. I never even said it wasn't good. It is a very good BH. I just think Gasquet's is better. Second of all, using success as an argument is BS. Roddick had a better serve than Roger. Nadal had better movement and fitness. But Federer was more successful than both in his prime. Because he had high levels of every facet of his game, but that doesn't mean each individual part of his game had to be the best. I can name a ton of people with a better serve than Rafa who aren't nearly as successful, for example. Success does not mean you have the best of everything, end of story.

Federer has a great BH. His flick is probably the best in the game. And he may have better variety. But Gasquet doesn't need variety. He can create a winner with his backhand from any position or anywhere on the court. And it's more consistent. Federer's breaks down in certain scenarios, like it always does against Nadal. Gasquet's doesn't do that. Now, Gasquet is a more inconsistent player, definitely. So sometimes, his BH isn't firing. But when it is, it's the best in the business IMO.

the bottom line is that roger`s backhand never broke down.

Well, first of all, Nadal definitely worked Roger's backhand to break it down. Sure, some of it was situational to open up the court. But he definitely did it mostly to break down Fed's BH. Second of all, I would say if you can't execute a shot for an entire match, it's a liability. For example, if I could pound 150+ mph serves consistently for a set, but then I couldn't serve above 110+, my serve wouldn't be the best. For a shot to be considered the best, it sure as heck better be able to hold up for an entire match.

Rafa is the FIRST to qualify for WTF this year! :D

rubbish.

in fact total rubbish.

single hander is a primitive tool at best in the modern game.

no way in hell can a single hander withstand heat for 4-5 hours on any surface against those who are considered the best baseliners in history.

both nole and nadal--at their best--are machines who can pound your weaker wings for 3-5 hours if they have to.

that will and does tire out your arm if you are hitting single handers.

like I said before if you have not played the game at a high level and do not own a great topspin backhand then you are not going to be able to appreciate what roger or any other player who has a single handed backhand has to go through under constant pressure.

also what fool would attack roger`s forehand? he has the greatest forehand in history.

it turns out that roger also has the best single handed topspin backhand in history. only it is the weaker wing relative to his forehand. it does not quite have the finishing power his forehand has.

at some point his arm gets tired from hitting those heavy topspin balls and that is when the errors start to flow.

single hander simply has too many variables and your arm will get tired from hitting backhands for 3-4 hours.

those who hit doubles handers do not have that problem.

Herc, I agree with you about Nole and Rafa. the only thing is that Djokovic does attack Fed's FH very often. I watched all of their matches and Novak is not afraid to go FH to FH with Fed. I might even post some videos, but Djokovic doesn't give a sh!t. he is confident.  :)

that is how he opens up the court general alex.

most players have always tried to stay from roger`s forehand and a for damn good reason.

Thats right. Comparing a 1HB to a 2HB is like comparing a comet to an asteroid. Though comets have beautiful tails, asteroids are more cataclysmic.
