Herc, I'd say that Nole and Fed are smart servers, but far from be the best. Karlovic, Isner, Raonic are better ... they are just not as smart. serving is not all about the power ...  :)

Best singular serve, or best overall serving? Because if it's best singular serve, I'd put Karlovic at the top. But if it's overall serving, Isner. Isner's second serve has fierce power and ridiculous kick on it.

Rafa is the FIRST to qualify for WTF this year! :D

best serve is one which helps you win matches as well.

can you take care of your serve in the clutch when you absolutely have to hold?

what do your results look like? how dependent are those results on your serve?

Okay, in that case:

1) Isner
2) Raonic
3) Almagro
4) Djokovic
5) Querrey
6) Tsonga
7) Federer

7's a rather random number. Any specific reason you went for 7 instead of, say, 5 or 10? Just curious.

Let's see. First of all, CD put Almagro at 5 and monster put him at 3, just like I did. Why did you pick out me to call out?

Second of all, if you think saying Almagro's got a good serve is trolling, then you don't know much about what's going on right now. How about you check out the current ATP Tour Ace Leader...

Rafa is the FIRST to qualify for WTF this year! :D

i would have dr. ivo at the top and then isner.......a level below that federer, almagro, raonic, lopez and djokovic in that order........

Marian Vajda to Novak Djokovic, "I saw you beat that man like I never saw no man get beat before, and the man KEPT COMING AFTER YOU! Now we don't need no man like that in our lives."

i demand french open to be renamed RAFAEL GARROS

Actually, when I looked at serving stats...believe it or not...Almagro is up there at the top in a lot of categories!!! (I know, I was shocked too)!  But he is.

almagro has one hell of a serve when it is working.

not too shabby considering how short he is.

the only reason Almagro is even in this conversation is because it's fairly early in the year and he's having a great year and has won a decent number of matches and everyone is looking through  the ace leaders stats. I guess that does mean "at the moment". If I were to consider the last couple years as "at the moment" then Almagro would not make my list. People like Berdych, Tsonga and Del Potro all have a higher percentage of service games won than Almagro (which btw is in my opinion a better stat than aces).

For the record here's the top 10 of service games won in 2012:

2012
1.   Milos Raonic   93%
2.   John Isner   92%
3.   Roger Federer   91%
4.   Rafael Nadal   88%
5.   Juan Martin Del Potro   87%
6.   Novak Djokovic 87%
7.   Tomas Berdych    87%
8.   Jo-Wilfried Tsonga   86%

Of them, Raonic, Nadal, Federer, Tsonga, Djokovic are also in the top so far in 2013. By no means am I saying that list is the list in order of the best servers (let's not forget that people like Nadal and Djokovic and Federer win so much because they are overall better players anyway).

What about so far in 2013?  We are 5 months into the season.

Service games won is only 1 part of the equation.

I guess it all depends on how you wanna look at it.

I've yet to hear anyone make mention of the extreme grip Milos uses and it's impact on his serve.

You are right. I place more weight on that than on aces just because I think it means more in the end in making the player a great player (Karlovic's and Isner's high ace count don't necessarily mean they are good players) but if the discussion is simply about how great the serve is then service games won isn't necessarily telling. Most people don't put Nadal's serve up there but his service games won is always up there. So aces might be more telling. But then there's also things like weight of serve, spins, quality of serve under pressure, placement not just for aces and such that are impossible to tell unless you watch enough tennis. Unfortunately for me, watching tennis has boiled down to catching some highlight tapes for the most part :(

nadal`s service stats are skewed:

last year he hardly played and this year only 1 tournament on hard courts. and even there he ran into roger who had a bad back and then del potro in the final who was flat worn out.

nadal played 3 mickey mouse clay events in south America.

so not only that but he tends to win his service games with his ground game.

i never believed in judging a player's serve based on the % of service games won........the % of unreturned first and second serves is a very good indication of a player's serve strength........
Marian Vajda to Novak Djokovic, "I saw you beat that man like I never saw no man get beat before, and the man KEPT COMING AFTER YOU! Now we don't need no man like that in our lives."

You're right, that'd be a good stat. Does the ATP website have that stat? I know they show it on TV sometimes during matches but not sure if it's available online over the last couple years.
