Welcome back general Shankar!

The best player during 2012 will take this.  :thumbs-up:
But it might be his last RG title.   :Sad-Bye:

Respectfully,
masterclass

howdy general mc?

you thread "best player of 2012" was the best thread of 2012.......we will see about roland garros........nadal should hit form by the middle of the tournament and should take it comfortably in the end.......
Marian Vajda to Novak Djokovic, "I saw you beat that man like I never saw no man get beat before, and the man KEPT COMING AFTER YOU! Now we don't need no man like that in our lives."

i demand french open to be renamed RAFAEL GARROS

Thanks and good to see you here General Shankar.

I see your World Cricket thread is jumping. :) True cricket.

Again, glad to have you back General.

Nadal is just really starting to get in shape.  I think he needs about 8-10 more matches to be near his best.
90% level should be good enough, maybe even less for the Clay King.
He just has to avoid screwing up his knee any worse than it is, and put his poker and golf on hold till Wimbledon.

The level of the others on clay is quite suspect now.
Murray's done nothing on clay this year and pretty much never has.  Does he have any clay titles?
Ferrer can't make it past a semifinal at best.

Djokovic has made it to the RG finals once in his career and did not look good in Madrid (maybe the ankle is bugging him more than he lets on). Still he might make it back to the finals if he regains his health and form.

Federer just came back from a layoff so his form is a bit unknown , and I believe he is really gunning for an all-time record 8th Wimbledon title, not his second RG, so he might make the semifinal or final at best.  The rest have very little (2%) or no chance.

Respectfully,
masterclass

Sir John, to answer your question - Murray has never reached a clay final on ATP level, let alone won one. He has neither won a clay title on challenger level, but he has three futures titles on the surface.

He does not look the part of a RG favourite, even second-tier.

Thanks for the info Sir Markus!  Well, Andy Murray is not alone.  Many great players had a difficult time on clay.
It's like he can't make his mind up on how to play on it.

If he is serious about getting better on it, I would think he should start with one of the 250 or 500 events.
A title could give him more confidence on the surface.

Respectfully,

You're welcome  :)

I agree he should start with smaller events, but he does not seem to want to. He has not played a small tournament on clay since before RG 2005. Since then he's played Barcelona twice and otherwise only Masters and RG. That makes it difficult to reach the final for sure. Still, smaller tourmanents would be no certainty either. It was not Nadal and Djokovic who beat him last year, in his four clay tournaments he lost to Raonic, Berdych, Gasquet and Ferrer, and if he can't beat those any title will be hard to come by.

Murray doesn't look too motivated, I thought with Lendl he would be more aggressive and amped up during the clay season.

Djokovic could win this. If he doesn't, you're not a Harry Potter wizard, so settle down young man.

Rafa is going to be seeded 5th; and so if he goes through to the quarters and Djokovic goes through also - they will met there! That means Murray and Federer have good chance of winning the French since the winner of Rafa or Nole will be very, very tired.

agreed.  this 5th seed does not do rafa any good  :)>>>>

Really it shouldn't make much difference and the draw will have something to do with it also.

once again, just forget roland garros........just let nadal take what is his........don't make him angry by trying to fight and snatch his throne........just forget and surrender so that you can at least have him softened up for wimbledon........
