Statistics Corner: Benneteau and Gasquet in Grand Slams
« on: June 01, 2013, 02:00:51 PM »
Julien Benneteau has lost in the 3rd round of his last 7 grand slams (including this one).

Gasquet is one step higher. He has lost in the 4th round of his last 5 Grand Slams. If he loses to Wawrinka tomorrow, it will be the last 6 Grand Slams.

T4U statisticians: Is this some kind of record? Or is this just choking Frenchman?

I'm not sure if it's a record, but it's quite impressive.
Gasquet is 1-14 in R4s, and is currently on a ten match losing streak. I cannot recall having seen anything like it before.
Benneteau didn't really have a R3 problem until his current streak started. He's 3-10 in R3s, so he was 3-3 before USO 2011. But seven straigt R3 exits is quite impressive. Again, I haven't looked for this systematically, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn it was an Open Era record.
