Twitter: Tiriac wants Madrid to be a two-week event

#Madrid organizer #Tiriac is pushing hard to get the same two weeks IndianWells & Miami have; that would eat up one week on the clay season

I think one week is enough for Madrid. IW and Miami are exceptions, unlike other M1000s, they aren't prep events for a slam/WTF. That's why two-week M1000s are OK in IW & Miami; because of extra days, big names often play also doubles in IW. But in my opinion, Madrid should be a one-week event, it's just prep for RG.

I assume Madrid will get an extra week if it brings more money to ATP/WTA than having MMs in that week. And of course Tiriac wants Madrid to be a two-week event, he wants Madrid eventually to become a slam.

Madrid sucks. sorry, I'm not saying this because Nole lost today. Hamburg was a much better tournament. Madrid organizers try so hard to experiment and sh!t. the worst master in tennis history.  :\

I agree, something about it doesn't have the legitimacy of other masters to me.

It doesn't feel like a Master's because it's constantly changing.

Rafa is the FIRST to qualify for WTF this year! :D

Sweet Jesus, no.
Two week event draws with byes are disasters. Have IW/Miami taught them nothing?

Apart from the Epic tourist spots, i don't think many players would like to extend their stay at madrid due to " high altitude play ".
extending to 2week would probably result in pull-outs from various top players.

Btw, does anybody know the attendance figures of Madrid?

Rome reached its record yesterday with 18,690 spectators. Later this week there should be over 19,000 daily spectators.

rome masters should do well as long as nole, roger, and nadal are still in it.

any idea what the attendance was like in indian wells? did they shatter any previous records?

I am not expecting miami masters to do well next year in terms of attendance. some top players don't care all that much for Miami masters anymore.

This article suggests there will be only either Rome or Madrid M1000 in 2015, played over 10 days.

http://espndeportes.espn.go.com/news/story?id=1806105&s=ten&type=story

Hopefully this doesn't happen, I think players need to M1000 for RG preparations.

But if this happened, I'd have a solution. Make Rome a two-week M1000 and have Madrid M1000 on grass. Grass in Madrid's altitude might be cool.

we desperately need a grass masters event.

revive hamburg and make madrid a grass masters event.

grass season is too short. that has to be fixed.

operation tiriac on its way to eliminate the beautiful montecarlo from the masters pool to accommodate the idiotic madrid clay event.......disgusting........why don't they just get rid of IW, miami and madrid and have 4 clay masters and barcelona before RG........
Marian Vajda to Novak Djokovic, "I saw you beat that man like I never saw no man get beat before, and the man KEPT COMING AFTER YOU! Now we don't need no man like that in our lives."

i demand french open to be renamed RAFAEL GARROS

I sincerely pray this happens..  :// :// ://
there's virtually no grass season..Most of the guys play only 2 grass tournament ( Halle/queens/Eastbourne & then Wimbledon )
Grass court tournys were one of the most Popular courts earlier & now its almost extinct :(
I hope atp will atleast start 1 grass masters event in the future..
tbh, i am hopelessly lost at why they keep IW/Miami Masters just before clay season..If it was before Australian open, it would've made more sense.  :)
