2013 ATP Masters & WTA Premier 5 Rome (13-19 May)
« on: May 11, 2013, 11:36:59 AM »

My favourite Masters series event even if I don't particularly like clay but the Italian Open is such a traditional event.

Draws are here:

ATP
WTA

Anybody surprised Rafa landed in Ferrer's quarter? Well, I guess most of us are surprised that Rafa landed in Nole's half preventing a Nole-Rafa final. So seems like a good chance for Roger, Tsonga, or DelPo to make the final.

Istomin struggled past Isner, and Anderson crushed Melzer 6-1 6-2. So streaky Jurgen  :(

Isner has got to get out of 1R on clay. It's a pretty good surface for him.

that is an amazing tennis court. it is one of my favorite centre courts.

poor ferru. he has lost at least 7 clay finals to nadal.
he just cannot get away from nadal. and now nadal is going to be slightly better in rome than he was in Madrid.

Great job!  :)) Improvement since last time he lost to Raonic pretty badly.

Sad to see Jarkko lose  :( to Gulbis again. I hope he gets a great draw at Roland Garros.

Yeah I like Jarkko too, but prefer Gulbis more, so I'm happy. And that AO 1st round  :\ :)~

Kohli did lose to Raonic last time but on clay Raonic never stood a chance. So I kinda expected it, but still a great win  ;-()

I see Venus lost again. :(  She might just need to take the rest of the year off and rest.

I hope Roger does better this tournament and I hope Serena can continue her streak!  GO ROGER AND SERENA!!!! And congrats to Stan for being back in the top 10!!!!!!

Hullo Alex,

I hope things are going reasonably OK with the doctors.

I agree with you about Rome. It is one of the few European cities in which I would like to live. However, I expect that the tennis  is far out from the center of town. Is this so?

As some know, for clay I rather like Monte Carlo. Everything is up close and the setting is incomparable.   :) Melbourne, too is up close. You can lunch in town and walk to the tennis in the afternoon.

Wanted to go to Rome last year but Madrid is sooooo much cheaper. Madrid was a pleasant surprise, I must admit. Still haven't been to Rome.

Raonic has some work to do. He looks lost and has improved very little in 2 years.
He dropped his coach, mutual decision.

was it galo blanco by any chance?

I am not keeping up that much with milos.

he has one problem which cannot be fixed:

movement. he does not move well enough.

he also plays too much high risk tennis.

he needs to get in better shape and then just dig in and fight rather than going for winners all the time.

build your points and then pull the trigger.
