Good match by Roger. People talk about "the kid's" serve but as usual, when Roger plays these big servers, his serve is more effective. Roger had 11 aces to 5. And zero double faults to 4. Rogers's first serve percentage was 76% to his 60%.

Fed's serve is so accurate and he knows exactly what to do right after.

Janowicz has a tremendous serve, it may turn into the best in the game.

For the match. Janowicz avg first serve was 133 MPH, Fed was 119 MPH.
Speed isn't everything though.

that first serve speed might be the highest ever recorded for the entire match.

I think one of the reasons for it is that Jerzy's backhand is not good for both hitting and returning. Especialliy, when he face out-wide shot to his backhand. It is his biggest weakness. So to defeat Jerzy, you have to place a lot of balls to his backhand wing. Accurated serve is Federer's trademark, so it does a lot of damages.

So it is area Jerzy has to improve in the future. He has good backhand slice and drop shot, but normal hitting and returning are not good enough. Single backhand can be his option.
 ..-)
I just hope Jerzy's coach knows this problem and has worked with Jerzy.

Babb's said one of them was 144 mph.

At IW they had a board next to the clock that showed every serve speed, that is cool.

Now that Jerzy has had a few matches with some very good players he and his coach have plenty of video to review.
They can work on the problems they find.

word on the street is that he has hit serves in excess of 150 MPH in practice on indoor hard courts.

so with a little more work in the gym and a more modified service motion he could hit serves near 160 MPH.

that day be coming from him in about 2 years.

Yes, he will eventually become stable.
His serve still has room to improve for example placement and accuracy. He should able move quicker. His big forehand can go sharper and more consistent.

Fed ultimately picks on that weak wing to finish him off. Very easy TB.

Jan's BH will be his undoing. This kid reminds me of a young Roddick. Eventually the tour will neutralize the power and you're left exposed with a weak BH and ROS.

I tried to tell you but you wouldn't listen.
Top ten material.

Or are still waiting for Ferrer to win a slam?  :rofl_2:

Lets see what Fed says in his presser.

Fine. Roddick was Top 6 for a decade. I was being super generous comparing this joker to Roddick.

Wow, you guys really are willing to suspend disbelief. This guy is a loose cannon in love with his big weapons and quirky shots. Those guys never reel it in and become students of the game.

When Serena is focused, healthy, and on her game, she is devastating.  Last summer's Olympic medal run showed you what she can really do.  She seems to now have found the right mix of support team to keep her healthy and focused on tennis, so...
