Early 2013 Wimbledon speculations
« on: May 12, 2013, 11:06:04 AM »
In all the years when Madrid has hosted a clay Masters, Madrid ATP champion has won also Wimbledon that year. Also, the previous two years' Madrid WTA champs have won Wimbledon. Maybe Madrid was a bit slower this year but why not already speculating a bit about Wimbledon?

This year I say Madrid WTA champ is more likely to win Wimbledon than ATP champ. I see nobody beating Serena at Wimbledon. But unless Rafa improves massively (what I doubt), he would be one of the worst Wimbledon champs ever.

I think Nole is the favourite for Wimbledon, he's the best player in the World and recent years' best grasscourters Federer, Murray, and Nadal haven't been too impressive recently. Yeah, Murray was bad on clay also last year but was then brilliant on grass. But Roger is worse than in years. Tsonga might be dangerous at Wimbledon, he's in a good form, his game suits very well to grass, and he isn't afraid of big names. With all big names being not 100%, I feel this might be a great chance for him to win a slam.

Well, the Big 4 should have a fork in them by 2020, so maybe we should speculate about which of the post-modern-post-new generation-young guns will win Wimbledon after the Big 4 are past their prime.

I don't think Djokovic is a favorite for Wimbledon. yeah, he is there, he won it before but ... I'd say one of favorites wherever he plays. However,  grass is his weakest surface.

Herc, you are right. I see many guys on MTF dismissing Fed completely. However we all know he can dance on grass like nobody else. I also give good chances to Rafa too. Many thing will depend on the draw. Rafa wouldel need to somehow avoid Nole, Nole would need to avoid Fed etc.

Call me biased, but I think people (besides Alex, since he mentioned Rafa having good chances) are brushing aside Rafa too easily. I think he'll be out to prove something there after last year.

Rafa is the FIRST to qualify for WTF this year! :D

prove what?

prove that he has failed to improve in 5 years?

he cant volley at all now. his slice is club level at best.

forget about Wimbledon for the clay warrior.

just be happy that he will snatch one more RG crown.

that is more than enough.

lets add one more name for Wimbledon: murray

I have a feeling that roger or murray are going to sneak into the final.

so one of them is probably going home with the Wimbledon hardware.

Prove to everyone, including you, that he HAS improved and that he is by no means done. He can definitely volley. I watched his match against Ferrer. He was going up to the net quite often. He is more than capable at the net. Highly underrated. He just has confidence issues there.

Murray and Fed are always presences at Wimbledon for sure. Murray's anticipation make him insane on the grass, and Federer...well, he's Federer. Hard to argue with 7 Wimbledon titles.

Rafa is the FIRST to qualify for WTF this year! :D

I think right now Nole is slightly favored over Fed on grass.
Nadal should be in the mix as well as Murray.

It will probably come down to how they perform on that particular day if they meet.

a little bit of luck goes a long way too general swish.

they all can use a little bit of luck here and there in the slams.

the right draw and other players being extended a couple or 3 times also helps.

The concept of luck is a crutch for the weak.
Warriors prepare, perform, and accept the outcome whatever it may be.

well yes and no.

they all need a little bit of luck.

with 3 all time greats playing at the same time, it is not easy to win slams.
