2013 Queen's Club ATP 250 (June 10-16)
« on: June 08, 2013, 11:59:26 AM »
One of my favourite events, probably the favourite 250. How could somebody not love the view of the grass courts at the Queen's Club?

Wikipedia article with the draw.

Some interesting players at the Queen's Club. Murray was bad on clay also last year but excellent on grass, does that happen again? Tsonga and Berdych have had success on grass and both have had a good season so far. And how good is del Potro on grass? He won the Olympic bronze but he hasn't been to impressive on grass besides that.

Dimitrov-DelPo seems like an interesting potential QF, and defending champ Cilic may play Berdych in QF. And Murray possibly playing Mahut on R32 seems a bit rigged.

My pick for the title is Tsonga. He's been more consistent this year and his game suits very well to grass.

That is quite a view. The pristine grass court, the blue walls and seats, the beautiful buildings behind it. And then the city buildings in the background ruin it XD

Rafa is the FIRST to qualify for WTF this year! :D

Doubles specialists doing well in qualies. Freddie Nielsen, Marcelo Melo, Nenad Zimonjic, and Rohan Bopanna all on the final qualifying round.

I was nostalgic with red background at Queens, but since blue is my fave color I got used to it pretty quickly  ;-()

Dimitrov-Hewitt is an interesting potential R32 match.

I preferred the red background, light blue just looks a bit strange.

All doubles specialists lost in the FQR but Nielsen got in as a LL, will play Matosevic in R1.

:)) good for him. Funny thing is, Lopez would have gotten LL if he lost also.

I feel like both Queens and Halle should be bumped to a 500.

I doubt they are willing to pay 500 level prize money when already a 250 gets a 500 level field. Only a Masters could get a better field. But they will add third week to the grass season. And global warming (if it exists) should enable RG week earlier and USO week later so the grass season could be five weeks. That should be enough for a Masters.

Sid, have a great time at Queens, and I hope Murray comes back fit & well.   :)

As for the proceedings, I'll be able able to watch some tennis today, and hope I can watch at least the Del Potro / Malisse & Hewitt / Dimitrov ones.

Nice win for Jarkko over Harrison 6-3 6-3

Also, good to see Rosol win over the biggest server on ATP, Groth. I hope he is peaking for Wimbledon  :)

Yes, it's pretty sneaky of them to only pay like a 250  because all the good players are forced to come there if they want grass practice  :)~

I agree with the 3rd week. Good idea  :))

Whoa! I missed this nugget about how global warming should impact the tennis schedule!

Priceless!!!

RE: the points allocated to tournaments.  I agree that Halle & certainly Queens should be given 500 point status.  Quite why Monte Carlo is 1000 points is beyond me. Unless of course it's because of the outstanding location!   :))

As for the tennis - what a day! Of rain, that is!  Querry / Bedene seems to have gone on forever. AB played very well - I've not really taken any notice of him before. It was close in the final set tb & Querry clinched it.

Del Potro is up a set after a tb in the first set. But 0-3 down in the 2nd set & looking a little lax. He's played a really sloppy exchange at the net & lost the point. He's broken again, Malisse up 4-0.
