Your favourite match-ups?
« on: June 15, 2013, 08:06:46 AM »
Federer-Haas is a nice match-up, tennis wins either way.

Tsonga-Berydch is another of my favourites. They have nice offensive games but they've been behind the Big Four for years and still lack a slam. I'd just love a GS final between these two.

I'm not a big fan of any Big Four match-ups, they are too much about defense. Fed-Nole is my favourite of them, that offers most offensive play.

I enjoy when offensive players are going against each other. Best tennis for me.

Even though it usually scares me, I love watching Rafa/Djoker matches, especially when they're both playing really well.

Rafa is the FIRST to qualify for WTF this year! :D

This is tough to pick a specific matchup.

Guys I like to watch Haas, Wawrinka, Almagro, Gasquet, Fognini, Llodra, Djokovic (except vs Nadal and Murray), Tsonga (grass only), Kohli, Youzhny, Dolgopolov, Paire (on clay), Dmitrov, Robredo, Malisse

Guys I don't much care to watch Nadal, Murray, (especially against each other and Djokovic), Del Potro, Ferrer, Isner,

Guys I'm indifferent to Federer, Berdych, Simon, Raonic (losing interest fast!), Cilic, Janowicz, Gulbis

Guys I really don't want to watch ever Nishikori, Querrey, Anderson

So, I suppose a mix of the guys I like to watch is all good. But like all, I do like Haas-Fed.

I like Tsonga-Wawrinka. Those two always seem to produce epics.

How come you never want to watch Nishikori?

All five Tsonga - Wawrinka matches has gone to a deciding set. I wonder if this is a record.

Lol. I guess one's dislike for Querrey and Anderson are a given.

good question. hm
I like Nole vs. Fed (they tend to bring best in one another). Nole vs. Rafa could be good too, but it depends. Some of their matches were amazing, some were mediocre.
Not a big fan of Fedal matches, it's too one sided, bad match up, too predictable. As much as I like Murray, I don't like Nole/Murray matches at all, they tend to bring the worst in one another (it's usually a grinding/pushing s**tfest).
I love watching Haas vs. anybody. I love watching Llodra vs. anybody.
Tsonga vs. Wawrinka is a great match up.
I hate watching Rafa vs. any Spanish player. I also hate watching Nole vs. any Serbian player.
Murray vs. Nadal is fun to watch. I hope they meet at SW19.

I agree with Lug. In general I love watching aggressive/attacking players vs. defensive players.

What's your take on Nishikori, why don't you like watching him? Just curious. Querrey and Anderson are similar a bit but Nishikori?

Woops, didn't see someone already asked this! but you still didn't answer.

good question! Let's see, I'll do players I like vs. who I like seeing them against

Federer vs. Djokovic - I think they bring some really good tennis and against each other neither one has a weakness so they have to play to each one's strengths
Federer vs. Tsonga - love them both.
Federer vs. Berdych and Simon - more to see how Berdych/Simon play against Federer because sometimes it's amazing
Tsonga vs. Djokovic, although Tsonga doesn't bring his A game all the time.

Can't think of matchups off the top of my head.. usually it takes a couple matches to establish and anticipate a matchup and for obvious reasons the top players have more matches between them.

Don't like his game or his on/off court personality. Malisse may not be great, but he's got style and is fun to watch...like Fognini.

Now, tell me how Nishikori is similar to Malisse and Fognini.

:good:

That's fair enough reason for me, just curious to see if you had anything particular that you don't like. I do agree that Malisse and Fognini have that flair that makes them exciting and I guess Nishikori doesn't compare for you. I watched Nishikori live and the few matches I have seen of him were where he's played lights out and was in full flight and it was impressive, but  I know you watch a lot more people in person so that wouldn't have the same pull on you.

some of the nadal vs roger matches on quicker courts have been fascinating. like that 2009 Australian open for instance.

nadal vs nole is a good matchup but I think nadal has started to decline. so we will see where that rivalry goes.

at the very least nadal needs to hold on to his competitive advantage on the red clay for as long as he can.
