« on: June 24, 2013, 01:37:08 AM »
2013 Wimbledon Wizard Contest

Who will have the prestige of becoming the 2013 Wimbledon Wizard?
The winner will be the one whose tennis knowledge and ability to forecast Wimbledon happenings rises above all others!
Awards will be given at the end of the contest.

There will be a series of questions given for each round.  I will keep track of the answers and post the results.
The points given will increase as the rounds progress, so even if you miss a round or two, you will have a chance to catch up.
There will be a bonus question for each round that will be worth twice as much as the regular questions.
The deadline to answer each round's questions will be posted.
You may only select 1 answer per question unless otherwise indicated.
Please clearly indicate your selection.
New participants WELCOME at any time!
Results for Final round - Sunday, 7th of July (Men's Singles Draw)

Please post your responses as soon as possible before the Men's Final scheduled for Sunday, July 7th - 2 PM  LONDON TIME

All questions this round will be worth 4 points, except for the bonus question which will be worth a maximum of 8 points!
Any player that gets every answer correct including the bonus will get an additional 10 points.

Maximum points possible this round - 42

1) Which player will have his serve broken first?
a. Novak Djokovic - broken in 3rd game of match to go down 1-2
b. Andy Murray

2) Predict the number of tiebreakers
a. 0
b. 1
c. 2
d. 3
e. 4

3) Who will win the highest pct. of return points?
a. Novak Djokovic - 39%
b. Andy Murray - 48%!

4) Predict the winner and sets of the match.
a. Novak in 3 sets
b. Novak in 4 sets
c. Novak in 5 sets
d. Andy in 3 sets
e. Andy in 4 sets
f. Andy in 5 sets

5) Who will get taken to the bakery (lose 6-0 - bagel, OR 6-1 - breadstick)?
a. Novak Djokovic
b. Andy Murray
c. both
d. none

6) Who will be the most aggressive and come to the net the most times?
a. Novak Djokovic - 52
b. Andy Murray - 37

Bonus question worth maximum of 8 points

7) Predict the number of times each player's serve will be broken
(4 points will be awarded for a correct answer for each player . If there is no correct answer, the closest to it will get the points)

Djokovic's serve will be broken 7 times
Murray's serve will be broken 4 times.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Litotes wins, Clay Death finishes second, ashwin#1 in third! Nobody got the bonus questions exactly correct, but several came close to the high amount of breaks, with Litotes and Babblelot close for both players.  Congratulations Litotes (Markus) and well done to everyone!
I think many were getting a hang of the game by the end.  Thanks for playing! Awards and interviews to follow (when I can corner Litotes and Clay Death :)) ).

Murray returned phenomenally well, winning almost 50% of the return points and breaking Djokovic 7 times. Djokovic was forced out of his normal baseline game, coming to the net 52 times, 15 more than Murray, and attempted many more dropshots, in an effort to close out points, probably due to some fatigue left over from the Del Potro match.  Unfortunately for Djokovic, his execution when doing so was not good enough.  Too many drop shots sat up for Murray winners, and not enough net points were converted to make a difference.

Congratulations to Andy Murray and his fans, and condolences to Novak Djokovic and his fans. Well done to both players!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please post your responses as soon as possible before the Final scheduled for Sunday, July 7th - 2 PM LONDON TIME

Good luck and thanks for playing the 2013 Wimbledon Wizard Contest![/font]

Women's tennis questions?  Not as of now, sorry. My knowledge of WTA is too sparse to form good questions.  However, if someone with more knowledge wants to start a companion contest for the women's side, please feel free!

Well done on a tough first round everyone, and especially to Clash and Litotes!

I'll be keeping all round questions and results in the first post, in reverse chronological order - current round on top, previous rounds below.  Again, these questions apply to the Men's Singles draw only.

Second round questions coming soon!

I encourage you to invite your fellow posters to play from whatever forum they happen to frequent.

I don't see Freak3yman84 here, nor EnriqueG8, nor Babblelot, nor monstertruck, nor Emma or Alex, nor swish, nor Dallas, nor Lugburz, nor sid, and many other of the "tennis experts" around here playing this challenging contest.   hmmm...  I encourage you all to participate!

Remember, even if you miss a round, you still have a good chance to catch up, as the point values increase along the way!

Respectfully,

No, you may join anytime Lady Ann!

I increase the point values of the questions as the contest moves on, so you still have a chance even if you miss some rounds.

Pass it on to anyone else who might like to play. :)
