Nike running shoes may be better.  Isn't Alex weighted more than 300 pounds?  Not sure if he can run fast enough.  Better don't go completely naked, wear at least a g-string, i don't want you to scare off all little kids  :rofl_2: :rofl_2:

this was pre-open era right? So, he may still make history in open era  :gleam:

Hi Mimi, Luburz and all.

Mimi, the answer to your question is no.
The great Richard "Pancho" Gonzales skill and longevity was so great that he played in both eras. He was born May 9, 1928.  He was ranked in the world top 10 for an astounding 21 years (1948-1969) and the US top 10 for 24 years (1948-1972).

Gonzales turned 41 in May 1969, which was in the Open Era, the year Rod Laver won the last Grand Slam (all 4 majors). in the first round at Wimbledon in 1969, Gonzalez outlasted Charlie Pasarell over 2 days, 22-24, 1-6, 16-14, 6-3, 11-9 in the longest match ever at Wimbledon till then. Tiebreakers were used the next year.  The same year (1969), Gonzalez astounded the tennis world again, winning the Pacific Southwest, (a tournament that used to be played in Los Angeles the week following the Open), singles and doubles (with Ron Holmberg) twenty years after he had swept the championships the first time.

In 1970, Gonzales beat #1 Rod Laver in a $10,000 (a lot of money for that time) winner-take-all match at Madison Square Garden in 5 sets.
Gonzales was still ranked #9 in the US in 1972 at the age of 43.

A true legend of tennis as you see pictured in my signature.

Respectfully,

grease is actually good for you ... olive oil, meat, veggies,

cut down on carbs (rice, potato, bread, sugar) ...  let yourself have whatever you want once in a while

Here is a super video retrospective of Gonzales.  His Latino personality was fiery. The great Rod Laver once said he tried very hard NOT to make Gonzales angry during a match, because he became almost unplayable once angered.

He had an incredible serve (clocked around 120mph), even while being forced by the rules of the time to keep one foot on the ground and with the old small frame (65 sq inch) and gut strung wooden racquets.  Watch and enjoy.

Richard Alonso "Pancho" Gonzales(z)

Gonzales deserves much more credit but things were different at that time. I read about him so much. It's hard to find his matches though.

then again 'Closed Era' ... Open Era ... so much stuff to digest.

many tennis historians still think he was the greatest one (I still hate that word  :)). They based it on his longevity.

Nowadays, it's not possible for modern players to achieve what Pancho was able to do.

here is a little clip with Gonzales and Rosewall
