To me the definition of greatness = innovation. So from that standpoint, I consider the real innovators of the Open Era to be:Connors, Borg, Lendl, Agassi, Federer, Nadal, Djokovic.
Here is a super video retrospective of Gonzales. His Latino personality was fiery. The great Rod Laver once said he tried very hard NOT to make Gonzales angry during a match, because he became almost unplayable once angered. He had an incredible serve (clocked around 120mph), even while being forced by the rules of the time to keep one foot on the ground and with the old small frame (65 sq inch) and gut strung wooden racquets.
