I came to Cincinnati without a sweater and it got very cool
so I came back early again tonight. Fed will have to do without me but I hope I can watch it on the computer.
I met several friends from previous years. One lady has been living with guilt for the last 12 months. It appears that the couple were at the hotel where the players stay. On the day of the final, she came face to face with Djokovic in the corridor and she wished him good luck for the match. As people remember, he did not do well
, losing the first set 0-6 to Fed, and then losing the second in a 6-7 tie-break. ....and I thought it was all Nole's fault.
Tennis today was a mixed bag. Mertov and I watched Tommy Haas defeat Kevin Anderson 6-4, 6-4. Then I went to the very small court 7 to first see Nieminen win his match against Roger Vasselin. What I was really waiting for, was to see Pospisil play Gilles Simon. Right from the start Simon looked as though he did not want to be there. I was curious to see how Pospisil would handle Simon's backboard ground game. He did so fine but Simon could not handle the big Pospisil serve and never got into the match. Simon lost the first set 6-1, and retired with hip strain at 1-1 in the second. His temperament was not helped by the noisy Canadians. Simon has not done well recently. He also went out in the first round in Washington. Pospisil continues to impress. Later on Mertov and I watched most of Raonic vs Jack Sock. Sock played well but eventually lost in three sets.
Now back to the computer to see Federer in the comfort of my warm motel room.
