...That's what I expect from Federer going forward. Great at times, human at times. More error prone as well. But he will raise a trophy or two before it's all said and done. Maybe not a grand slam, but a major perhaps.

Hello Dmastous. I take your point, and it would be unrealistic to rule out age as a factor in his inconsistency, but I don't think that is the salient issue.  I agree with Babblelot, in that the single mindedness seems to have gone. Throw in an injury niggle & the recipe for non-descript matches & early exits is complete.

As for Isner - will he save another attempt to break?

No. He won't. What a pity he botched that shot.  D-P up 5-3, serving for the match.

Isner would have used up tremendous energy to beat Djokovic yesterday - he simply doesn't look as sharp today.

I'm sooooo glad people are finally talking about the ATP Race rankings. As you know, I'm not a fan of the 12 month system.

hm, not sure I understand. rankings and the race points equal at the end of the year. what would you like to see? delete all points at the end of  the year and start all over again  :confused1:? sorry Babbs, but can you elaborate this a little bit?

D-P moves beautifully for a big man & that forehand is just incredible.

JI trying to stay in it. Deuce.

Wow! What a ros from JI!  He gets bp.

And JI breaks with a stunning shot down the line!  Brave, brave play.  Superb stuff!  Back on serve in the 2nd set.

I'll do my best with one finger. How can Rafa be anything less tha #1 in 2013? What does 2012 have to do with 2013? I don't like that this information is hidden by the 12 month rankings. It seems they're finally compelled to talk...

ISNER!!!!!

...about the Race because people at home are saying, "uh wut? Why isn't Rafa #1?" Or "Screw the rankings, they're based on a retarded 12 month system. Rafa is the real #1 by far."

When's the last time a real #1 went out in a slam in the first round?

 :Sword Fight:   Close, this.

Superb winner from D-P.

And now, can JI close this set out?

Beauty from D-P to go 7-7 in the tb.

you don't make any sense. Rankings make perfect sense. Nothing is hidden. If Rafa outperforms Djokovic, remind you there are lots of tournaments to be played (4.5 months left), he will overtake #1.

So, what do you want? Take away points Djokovic gained at the USO, and at the end of the season where he won all tournaments including the WTF and just give #1 to Rafa (who also played some MM tournaments on clay btw where none of the other top players showed up)? yeah, that makes lots of sense  ..-).

bud, I can go on and and on about this, even break down points and tournaments they played for you. again give a logical alternative/solution and I'll listen. I don't think you have one.

What kinda system would you introduce? sorry, you are being silly. How would you determine seedings?

Del Po is playing much better but on big points looks bad.

On to the third set.

If Isner plays true to form, Del Potro will be in trouble. Either way, I hope it goes 3 hours  ;-()

Perfect match so far for my liking  :))

A couple of nice girls in the crowd. One of them had a team rafa black tshirt on while waving american flag, and the other was sitting amongst a couple of girlfriends and in a black lowcut top.
“It is not too far way,” Toni Nadal told The Australian after Nadal collected the 13th major of his career by mowing down Novak Djokovic in an electrifying final of the US Open. “It is getting very, very close for Rafa to be level with Roger or more.”

Plus I don't mind the ranking system. I know that one day the shoe will be on the other foot. There will be another guy dominating the year while Nadal is still ranked number one. It evens out eventually.

It goes to a 3rd set.  Well done to JI for refusing to give up.  It shouldn't have gone to a decider, and D-P knows it. I hope D-P can put that behind him. JI will be up for the challenge after resurrecting his chances.

Anyway, on the basis that Nadal will likely trounce Berdych in straight sets, neither of these two has a hope of winning the title.

Robbie Koenig makes me laugh!

I'm afraid that DP might melt down. As for Berdych, I wouldn't write him off completely but Rafa is a bad match up for him (h2h 14:3 Rafa ... last time Berdych def. Rafa was back in 2006). Remind you if Nadal wins Cinci he is going to overtake #2 and will be seeded #2 at the USO.

Del Po had so many chances.
