I wonder how Federer feels about playing 4 such feminine players, before facing Nadal. At least Nadal gets to play Kohl - single-hander with powerful baseline game that has taken a set from Nadal in each of their 5 hardcourt meetings. Djokoivic too is at a disadvantage heading into a clash with Murray, as Murray will get a good test (or may even get beaten) in QF to get his eye in.

The way this year has gone for Roger, I'm sure he didn't think these players were "feminine".  Remember, he's lost to 100+ ranked players multiple times this year, so he has to take everyone seriously.  Nadal, this year, is just in a zone and it really doesn't matter who he plays -- he's just been that good.  So instead of knocking the players Roger has played -- you should be rejoicing the year that Nadal is having!  He's on fire.

Anyone else catch the banter between Blake & Courier re: the homogenization of surfaces leading to a lack of variety on the ATP?

Are you saying I have not been rejoicing abut the year Nadal is having?  :rofl_2:  There are people here criticizing me for rejoicing Nadal's success too much  :lmao:

The truth is, if you ask Federer's opponents, they'll admit that they are feminine when compared to Nadal. Its all relative, and not a criticism in this case. Nadal is on a different level mentally and physically. Of course, Nadal is also on a different level to Kohl and Dodig etc. But I still think Federer would have been better off facing Kohl than facing these punching bags. And Federer leads Kohl 7-0, so its not like there would be much chance of an upset. It would be a better workout is all. Is it so bad that I want Federer in the best possible form when Nadal mauls him? Then again, I guess Federer is in top form to the people who judge form by scores  :)

“It is not too far way,” Toni Nadal told The Australian after Nadal collected the 13th major of his career by mowing down Novak Djokovic in an electrifying final of the US Open. “It is getting very, very close for Rafa to be level with Roger or more.”

Anyone else catch the banter between Blake & Courier re: the homogenization of surfaces leading to a lack of variety on the ATP?
Straight from the horses mouth. :(

I wish they didn't switch to faster balls at Roland Garros. They should have kept Roland Garros as slow as the 90s.

I liked it better when there was more variety in the surfaces and the players styles.

If they stopped using the fast balls at Roland Garros (which they introduced in 2011), there would be a greater difference between the pace of Roland Garros and pace of the other slams. So it would help variety, because the players who like slower pace would flourish more at Roland Garros. Now Roland Garros is helping the big servers too much (not enough to win, but still too much).

As for the US Open/Australian Open, if the organizers are slowing them down, the reason might be that its more entertaining to watch long points. I mean, are aces and unreturnable serves really entertaining? Sure it helps serve-volley tennis if they add some speed to the courts. But the players generally don't want to charge the net in this era, even if the court is a bit quicker. The quality of baseline tennis is so great in this era, that coming to the net isn't very appealing or advantageous, regardless of the surface.

That was an interesting conversation between a guy who was hurt by court homogenization and a guy who would have benefited from it.

Yeah I've been saying this forever that Blake is probably most affected by it  :(
Now he is retired.

They said we will have tennis within the next 12 minutes.  I heard they are moving the Federer/Robredo match to Armstrong.

Some rain is good! Lucky bastards in Armstrong.

*It's not GA at this point. I think Armstrong goes ticked during the weekend or on Monday as there are only 2 feature courts in play. But still, Armstrong is only 10,000 seated, less than half the size of Ashe. Much closer to the action.

Nationality definitely factors in for me. Americans and Italians will get some love from me. If Isner wasn't American I wouldn't like him as much as I do, which isn't much. Luggy, you like Germans :)~
