Robredo takes 1st set TB! :toot:

Fed pushed to at least 4 sets to win.

Armstrong is going to go nuts!

The coolest thing is the Raonic/Gasquet match doesn't have commentary. This is so cool. I love it. Just pure tennis  :not worthy:

Anyone else catch the banter between Blake & Courier re: the homogenization of surfaces leading to a lack of variety on the ATP?
Straight from the horses mouth. :(

That was an interesting conversation between a guy who was hurt by court homogenization and a guy who would have benefited from it.

Courier was practically drooling at the prospect of dumbing down the court speed at the U.S. Open during his playing days.

Ridiculous! Raonic has already broken Gasquet twice.  :confused1:

Raonic 3-2

I wish they didn't switch to faster balls at Roland Garros. They should have kept Roland Garros as slow as the 90s.
I liked it better when there was more variety in the surfaces and the players styles.

If they stopped using the fast balls at Roland Garros (which they introduced in 2011), there would be a greater difference between the pace of Roland Garros and pace of the other slams. So it would help variety, because the players who like slower pace would flourish more at Roland Garros. Now Roland Garros is helping the big servers too much (not enough to win, but still too much).

As for the US Open/Australian Open, if the organizers are slowing them down, the reason might be that its more entertaining to watch long points. I mean, are aces and unreturnable serves really entertaining? Sure it helps serve-volley tennis if they add some speed to the courts. But the players generally don't want to charge the net in this era, even if the court is a bit quicker. The quality of baseline tennis is so great in this era, that coming to the net isn't very appealing or advantageous, regardless of the surface.
That's all a matter of perspective.
You combine longer rallies with cheaters/stallers who regularly take 30+ seconds per point and play low risk tennis and you've got complete boredom in my book.

As I said, I like the variety.
CONK da ball!!!

Awesome adjustment by Robredo backing up 6' to return Fed's 2nd serve. Fed needs to make the adjustment.

To be Honest, and keep in mind I am a Fed Fan. I see Fed playing right now vs. Robredo and he is just playing crappy tennis, this is the reflection of his entire year... Crappy tennis with flashes of vintage Fed on one or two ocassions... I don't even know if he is going to beat Robredo, but if he does, he doesn't have a chance whatsoever vs. Nadal.. At least not playing like this!!! Too many UFEs, shots coming up short and it seems he just forgot how to play down the lines, no angles whatsoevers, missing EASY shots... And on big points he comes up short.. I don't like watching Fed playing like this to be honest!!

Well, its painful watching Fed the way he is playing.. I think she prefers to write on the tennis board than watching his awful play today... It's happening to me!! LOL

I'm not happy with Gasquet. He had a chance to break back but blew it. too many UE, Raonic is more consistent so far. I just can't warm up to Milos  :\. just following the score board for other matches. Tipsy is a break up in 3rd.

Rafa and Kohli are warming up. Crazy, too many good matches being played at the same time.

This is my take.

No better opponent before the Nadal match. Robredo puts almost as much spin on nearly all of his shots as Nadal. And, Robredo is standing against the wall to return Fed's 2nd serve. This is forcing Fed to problem solve.

Trust me. This is much better prep going into the Nadal match than some tuna can who plays nothing like Nadal.
