Why do they call it an "open"? Because Scott could play if he gets through the national playoffs.

Mayo Hibi & Jeff Dadamo win 2013 US Open National Playoffs – Women’s & Men’s Singles Champs & earn US Open qualifying tourney wild cards.

Serena's fit for another Grand Slam tantrum, New York style.

Serena: "Almost happy I lost b/c now I don't have to worry about every day someone asking me about some silly winning streak."

Uh oh.....now Nadal has to worry every day about someone asking him about some silly winning streak  :yuk:
“It is not too far way,” Toni Nadal told The Australian after Nadal collected the 13th major of his career by mowing down Novak Djokovic in an electrifying final of the US Open. “It is getting very, very close for Rafa to be level with Roger or more.”

Babbs, why do you have some players highlighted in blue?

Is this just the official "pre" tournament thread or the thread we will keep when the tournament starts? Do you all want to split the women from the men or leave them together? It's up to you all. Doesn't make a difference with me.

Hullo Dallas,

I'd prefer separate threads.

Everyone is aware that all the belly aching about a Monday final (due to rain) 5 years in a row was for naught.

2013 Men's final, Monday, Sep 9, 5pm ET
(I think the same is the case for 2014)

That is by design.  No super Saturday.  Men's semis on Saturday, women's final Sunday at 4pm.

All the other majors play their women's and men's semis on Thursday and Friday, respectively, which is totally lame but fans haven't voiced much, if any, protest. The US Open, by contrast, has always shown the men's semis on the weekend, which is brilliant.

Why don't the other majors showcase their men's semis?

Good move. :good:

I notice your avatar has all 3 Dark Knight posters. Any thoughts on who they should cast in the Superman (Cavill) vs. Batman (?) film? Probably will find out soon anyway.

This might be the first time I've ever looked forward to a US Open more than an Australian Open   :)>>>>

Don't know, and to be honest I'm not looking forward to it. Never was a fan of Superman and didn't even enjoy their cross-overs in comics and almost all other comics book movies are pretty crap in comparison to The Dark Knight trilogy.

Yeah and since this is tennis thread, let's go to the 'cinema thread' if you want to talk more about movies and stuff  ;-()

I was also wondering what the blue highlights were?

Looking forward big time to this tournament! Nadal playing well, Isner playing well, Fed playing well...it looks to be some solid competition for a great tourney. Hopefully Djoker and Murray up their play (but not too much  ;-() ) by the USO, and then we'll see all kinds of great matches! Wonder who's quarter Fed's gonna be in? It seems like he's been in Nadal's quarter a LOT recently...

Rafa is the FIRST to qualify for WTF this year! :D

I'd still like to see Fed in Rafa's quarter because they've never played at the USO but that's just me  :).

and Babbs, answer our question goddamnit  :ranting:.

I'm predicting someone from that group will win the title.

Nope, not a fan of Batman (and his 'refuse to kill' approach), just a passing comment due to your avatar.

My only wish for this US Open is that Nadal and Federer meet. The final piece to the puzzle will be complete.
“It is not too far way,” Toni Nadal told The Australian after Nadal collected the 13th major of his career by mowing down Novak Djokovic in an electrifying final of the US Open. “It is getting very, very close for Rafa to be level with Roger or more.”
