If Nadal wins, then he's the best player of 2013 regardless. If either Murray of Djokovic does then it will depend upon the rest of the season IMO.

If Nadal wins he had the best year.

There's a lot riding on this for Djokovic. He's been the best for awhile and won't want to give that up.

In the FITD I won't pick Nadal, I'll go with my favorites as usual.  :king:

Nadal is #1 in the 52  week ranking system if Nadal wins the US Open and Djokovic doesn't make the final. Plus Nadal is WAY ahead of the pack in the race. And if Nadal wins the US Open by defeating Djokovic in the final, nobody will take Djokovic seriously as a #1.
“It is not too far way,” Toni Nadal told The Australian after Nadal collected the 13th major of his career by mowing down Novak Djokovic in an electrifying final of the US Open. “It is getting very, very close for Rafa to be level with Roger or more.”

Agreed, beating Djopkovic in two finals plus having two slams puts Nadal at the top.

Nadal has so many other titles also.

That's one of the reasons this slam is so important for Nadal and Djokovic.

Right now I think Nadal is the best player of the game, regardless of what the rankings say.

This makes the Australian Open fascinating. Djokovic going for 5th AO title. Nadal #1 seed. Nadal looking to destroy Djokovic on Djokovic's 'home turf' as Djokovic tried to do at Roland Garros to Nadal. Lots of media hype is on the way. And if Nadal wins the US Open he will be going for the "double Career Grand slam" at AO.

That will also be number 13 or 14 slams depending on the USO, then RG comes up.

Interesting times for sure.

I think the main point is missed here.If either If Nole/Nadal or Murray wins the USO,thay must be the best tennis player in holding 2 Slams.I know other tennis players might win,but if that don't,then the one who holds 2 Slam is no 1 this year.Race points mean nothing, winning 2 Slams is way bigger, just take how much prize money is won.

I hate to go chalk, but I don't see anyone but one of the big 3 winning (e.g., Nadal, Murray, Djoko.)  I would say Berdych has the best shot outside of them.  I would love to see Haas win but that is not possible.  I will probably be pulling for Delpo once Hass loses.

I was at this casino minding my own business, and this guy came up to me and said, "You're gonna have to move, you're blocking a fire exit." As though if there was a fire, I wasn't gonna run. If you're flammible and have legs, you are never blocking a fire exit.  - Mitch Hedberg

Have to disagree here. Winning most slams is not a cure-all. Nadal has been way superior in the non-slam events and will certainly still be in th ediscussion for player of the year even if Djokovic or Murray wins USO.

As for prize money, if Nadal loses the final he will still have a commanding lead over the winner.

nope, this year ain't over bud. not yet. He'll be leading the race but there are many tournaments to be played by the end of the year.

Best player my ars. He didn't play the AO, lost in the R1 at Wimbledon.  he picked up around 1000 points in South America on clay beating a bunch of nobodies. People are over reacting. If he wins the USO, sure he is the best, but, but ... he won't. I wouldn't be too surprised if he loses in R2/R3.

At Mexico, Nadal beat Ferrer 60 62, Almagro 75 64, Mayer 61 75.
And overall during South American swing Nadal beat guys ranked 4, 12, 26, 64, 77, 78, 91, 93, 111, 128, 140, 157, and he did it with a limp.
So that means he played 3 events and faced a total of 4 guys ranked outside the top 100.
Guys play 3 slams and face 4 guys ranked outside the top 100.....

It's true that Nadal could falter now but until he does he's playing like the best player.

If he wins the USO he has a strong foothold as he's leading in the race now.

Swishy, as I said IF he wins the USO, Rafa is da best  ... end of story.  I doubt he will but that's my opinion. Rafa fans here are OK.

However, MTF Rafa trolls/fanatics are seeing it as if it's a given that Nadal will win the USO. They keep opening 100s of usless threads every day there gloating about Nadal, making fun of Fed etc.  It's the most fanatical fan/troll base in tennis history. so, because of his tards I want Rafa to lose in R1 so I can laugh at them.

Why Am I talking about MTF and Rafa tards (refering to MTF Rafa fanatics btw) here? Because nobody is talking about anything/tennis here any more. There are only 5/8 of us posting here on a regular basis and talking about tennis, players etc. Some others are hiding in that silly castle thing (nothing against it, I post there too sometimes btw) ... However, 99% of them have never posted anything in 'General discussion'. It's annoying. So, I go to MTF and read all of that garbage first but there are super smart guys there who know what they are talking about. The board is always busy.

I'm asking myself why? I see here Swish, Babbs, MT,  Lug, Sid, Dallas, Dmas (who came back, thank God),  myself ... a few more guys posting here and there and that's it  :\. When Rafa was doing fine we had so many of his fans posting here. When Rafa wasn't doing fine, they all disappeared. Now, we have Rafa2005RG and Rafa186. I hope they are here to stay  :).

Not much tennis talk here is true. I go to MTF and Talk tennis once in awhile, some garbage in there but active and they usually have the latest news because of all the posters.

I checked out Tennis Frontier, seems like a good site conceptually but isn't going anywhere.

So here I am and here you are.  ..-)

The castle, it would be OK for bigger sites but for small sites it splits the posts so both areas don't have much activity.  :dunno:

Me not being keen on Murray or Nadal doesn't change anything at all.

This was only my personal opinion what I've seen this year. Believe me, since I picked Nadal, it is as unbiased by me as it can get.
I'd like to say Haas or Wawrinka or Kohli etc but I was simply objective here.
And tennis is not only about slams. It's WAY MORE than that.

I have Fed taking this USO in 4 sets over Del Potro.
