Serena vs Sloane will be like the Fedal version of women's tennis. Great rivalry for the game.

I think it's too early to put Sloane up there yet.  AND, with Serena's age, this rivalry is already on the downside.  Sloan just turned 20.  Serena is 31...that's a BIG age difference to develop into a Fedal.  (and remember, Roger's only what -- 5-6 years older than Nadal?)   I think 11 year age difference beween Serena and Sloane is too much to develop into a real 'rivalry'.

But Serena said she's playing better now than ever in her career. And I also can see that. Serena is really hungry to play tennis and won't give up until she has used every bit of her body (a bit like the approach Agassi took after 1997), which may take until age 40 the way she is going. So being so much older than Sloane is a non-factor if you ask me. Serena may as well be 20 right now, because its going to take an awful long time for her current younger rivals to pass her by.

Serena vs Sloane is already a rivalry. Are there 2 other players on the WTA who step on the court (together) and draw more attention? It feels like its high stakes when they meet, ala Fedal (but I'm not saying their rivalry is or ever will be equal to Fedal, but just the closest the WTA has to it). Anyway, we'll see, I'm not saying their primes will collide, but Serena has MANY more years at the top remaining. Sloane may have to wait about 5 years to get to the top, unless Serena stops dominating in the next 2 years (and I'm pretty sure Serena will win more slams than anyone in 2014/2015, at least).

Its interesting with Serena and Venus, they both sound like they want to play forever. Venus was on an American morning show last week, and she got very angry with the host for asking her about retirement. The interviewer was like "There has been talk that your career may be slowing down a bit and..." and then Venus interrupted her and said "Ah there has been no talk, and in fact I asked off-air that there would be no talk of that".....And Serena is maybe even hungrier, after that 'near-death experience', which really changed her career.
“It is not too far way,” Toni Nadal told The Australian after Nadal collected the 13th major of his career by mowing down Novak Djokovic in an electrifying final of the US Open. “It is getting very, very close for Rafa to be level with Roger or more.”

Sloane can't play more than 6 consecutive games without having a mental lapse that lasts for 6 games.

Kiri and Ivanovic both steamrolled today  :)) And McHale had a nice win. Did I miss Duvall or has she not played yet?

Gotta admit I watched some WTA today!  :lmao:

Ivanovic's match was awesome. So many aggressive stuff.

I like Yaroslava, too. And Kanepi. And Giorgi. And Robson. And Bethany. All Winners

I got to see my first look at Bouchard. Like what I see.

Lol Collegiate champion Nicole Gibbs got b**chslapped by Pennetta, who I like, too. Errani and Vinci through. Of the Italians, only Schiavone lost.

Kviota another 3 setter but through.

Riske (USA) wins!

Christina McHale through. I should give her a second chance. I thought she was just another girl who disappeared after early success. Turns out she had "the mono." I guess she's healthy, again. Good to see the American get a nice win over Georges, a girl who disappeared after early success.

My predictions are going on the right way-
Serena is looking really good and Nadal too. I think only these two will win this grand slam.
Others are tight in comparison to these two.

I also like Robson. Great to see her win as well. And now Bouchard has to play Kerber. The USO draw WOULD do that to me...who should I pick? I dunno. I like em both!

Also GREAT to see Duval pull a huge upset! Go young Americans! Woot woot!

Watching Duval on replay now. I see nothing special about her game. Only 5'9". She looks extremely fast. Reacts to every UE. Every single one. It's already annoying.

OMG I am not s**tting you. She hit 3 UEs and struck the ground each time.

She's much more aggressive than Sloane in the sense that she swings out on every shot. Sloane plays a ton of defense. If Vicky doesn't learn to play more defensively she's going nowhere.

She needs to work on her SERVE.  I watched the match yesterday and I still don't see how Victoria won it.... :confused1:  But Sam was off too.  Hey, a win is a win.  I do believe Duvall will probably lose the next round, but it was fun watching her win yesterday.  She's a bundle of energy!  And she talks like she's 8 years old (voice wise)...but she seems very intelligent.   It'll be interesting watching the careers of Sloan, Duvall, Townsend, etc.

Easy win for Sloane. I did watch Duval's match against Strosur but I was commenting in the wrong thread. Duval really seems to be such a sweet girl, nice family too.

I tuned in just in time to hear Sloane's post match interview. There's "Good Sloane" and "Bad Sloane." Definitely the "Good Sloane" in the interview and I like her a lot better than Monday  :))

She said she was a mess on Monday, a nervous wreck. I have no idea why someone with her ranking is nervous playing a nobody qualifier ranked #110. She said she was relaxed tonight. 1 & 1. I'm convinced.

Suarez Navarro is having a great 2013. Not sure why she went away for 2 years, but she's quietly gotten herself to a career high ranking of #18 (June). And nobody noticed.

Ugh. I ended up rooting for Bouchard because she's younger and more of an on the rise player while Kerber's seemed to be declining recently, and then Kerber wins. I guess I'm fine with that, though. I am still a Kerber fan. But Bouchard won that second set and went into the decider with all the momentum, so I thought she was gonna take it :(

I find that most players don't know how to use momentum. After winning a set, the player typically relaxes (whether they mean to or not). Their subconscious motivation wavers. The best in the business have trained their subconscious to keep the foot on the gas.
