Swish, he was 4-2, 0-40 on serve & pulled it back to hold & go up 5-2.
His composure under pressure has been remarkable.

I thought the match looked over in the first set.

DelPo was able to save 3 break points with no mental lapses.

On to the third set!!!

Yes, and to serve it out with intent.  Good job.

They're going with serve 1-1.

This is getting exciting - both men playing well.

ND holding to love.   JMDP serving & 15-40 down!!  Match points to ND.

Unbelievable!  JMDP wins his game after ND had 2 match points! What a rally to clinch the game. Superb composure & outstanding play! 5-5.

Excellent serving by ND to hold.

Nole takes it!!!

Agree your observation.  Djokovic had the momentum in the 3rd set, and although he failed to convert several breakpoints, was knocking on the door too often for Del Potro's comfort. Despite this, JMDP took it to the tb, in which he seemed to lose focus, and was outplayed.

Congratulations to ND.  It's an excellent achievement to defend both Beijing & Shanghai, back to back.

But what a week for JMDP.  His game has been a marvel. To get past Nadal in the sf & take Djokovic to a tb in the final is a superb achievement.  He should know that he can beat both and I hope he'll take that knowledge & build on it looking forward.   I very much hoped he could win his first Masters 1000 title this time.  Sorry to him,  & to  Swish & all his fans, that he couldn't.  If he continues to play like this, he'll have other opportunities. I look forward to see how he does in Basel.

So Shanghai is over.  And this thread never made it to the "sticky" part of the page, where for some reason, Beijing & Tokyo continue to lurk!   :rofl_2:

I turned on the TV at 4:30am.
I thought it was a good final. Djokovic played incredible shot after incredible shot and knew just when to come to the net. He did indeed deserve to win. Magnificent tennis from both.  :)

As so often, DelP took the first set to come up to speed. It is a big disadvantage  in best of three with tie-breaks.  :(

Gratz to all DelPo fans, he was the best player of the tournament but its a shame he couldn't take the well deserved title.
Playing like that vs Nadal in the semis was a joy to watch. All those winners at clutch moments etc etc.

Very well done to DelPo and gratz to Nole for yet another masters title.

Though Del Potro lost, he lost in a way I could appreciate.

Nole was just very tough and chased down some bombs all day long, a tremendous performance from Nole.

Del Potro showed that he's physically fine and playing well again is what to take from this tournament.

Now I'm looking forward to Nole, Nadal and additionally Del Potro for the rest of the season.

Still there is Murray on the mend, Janowicz getting required rest and Roanic trying to make a move too.

And I'm waiting for Gulbis' next interview.
