Jerzy takes 1st set by 7-5. Some all court tennis occur in this set.

He added more spin on his second serve in the match. That is the most important thing to him.

Thanks for starting this thread, Dallas.

There's a good field here, and some cracking matches today.  I'm not going to be able to watch much today, but my picks to try & see are the current Gulbis / Isner  match,  Kohlshreiber / Haas &  Paire / Nieminen.

Here’s the schedule for the 23rd October:

Carpe Diem

Janowicz Advances; Chardy Upsets Isner

Valencia, Spain

Chardy© Queimadelos/Valencia Open 500Jeremy Chardy is through to his fourth quarter-final of the season.

Fifth seed Jerzy Janowicz defeated Portuguese rising star Joao Sousa 6-2, 7-5 on Thursday to reach the Valencia Open 500 quarter-finals. The 22-year-old Pole hit 13 aces and won 76 per cent of his service points as he clinched victory in 73 minutes.

Janowicz has been limited in his schedule since a run to the Wimbledon semi-finals (l. to Murray), having struggled with an arm and back injury. The right-hander is bidding to win his first ATP World Tour title this week and goes on to face either top seed David Ferrer or Julien Benneteau for a semi-final spot.

Jeremy Chardy reached his fourth tour-level quarter-final of the season as he upset fourth seed John Isner 7-6(7), 6-3. The Frenchman managed to out-ace Isner 17-12 and break the American twice to claim victory in 82 minutes. The 26-year-old Chardy, a quarter-finalist at the Australian Open in January (l. to Murray), improved to a 22-23 match record on the season and goes on to face Russia’s Dmitry Tursunov.

Jarkko Nieminen defeated qualifier Alejandro Falla 6-3, 6-3 in 67 minutes. The Finn was a finalist at the Power Horse Cup in Dusseldorf (l. to Monaco) in May and has a 31-25 match record on the season. Nieminen next will face Mikhail Youzhny, who defeated Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-4, 6-3.

Jerzy lose 1st set by double fault issue and good solid defence from Ferrer. However, Jerzy plays even more offensive and eventually breaks Ferrer 1st game of second set.

I watched this final on time delay. Youzhny was certainly on fire, which you have to be to outmaneuver David Ferrer.

I didn't think the crowd was so obtrusive here. Possibly a matter of stadium acoustics more than anything else.  :dunno:
