Except that Roger had to play a tough (mentally as well as physically) match today while Nadal was 'resting'.  Add 5-6 years apart, and the announcers said the surface isn't bouncing as 'low' as in the past..., as well as Roger's low confidence; Nadal winning everything this year; finishing #1, etc., all these things does not bode well for Roger in the match tomorrow.  Just keeping it real.  I WISH Roger could win, but I really don't see it with my head.  With my heart - I hope he does.

Then hopefully Nadal won't be bagelled this time.
“It is not too far way,” Toni Nadal told The Australian after Nadal collected the 13th major of his career by mowing down Novak Djokovic in an electrifying final of the US Open. “It is getting very, very close for Rafa to be level with Roger or more.”

Frankly speaking, if this year's version of Nadal cannot beat the 2013-version Federer tomorrow, especially that the latter has played grueling match less than 24 hours before, there is something wrong.  Rafa is the clear favorite.  While winning a terrific match, Federer's level is still nothing like his prime (it is the best he has shown in 2013, that much is true, just goes to show how far he has dropped in 2013)..

This year's Nadal hasn't played anyone as good as Federer yet, so hard to be 100% sure. Its the only match conditions that Nadal hasn't beaten Federer in, ever (indoor hardcourt).  I mean, I think Nadal will beat Federer. But I definitely don't 'know'.

Federer wasn't far from Djokovic a few days ago- 6-4, 6-7, 6-2. And he looked sharper vs Del Potro. So the only reason to doubt Federer would be the 'grueling match less than 24 hours before'.

I don't think Fed will be tired for today, 3 sets won't kill him.  He needs to come out playing damn well though or Nadal will roll him over pretty easily.  Basically he needs to keep the UFE down to a mega minimum to stand a chance.
Good Luck on the Court!!!

Agreed.
Fed has played very well but has some poor games now and then.

Fed will also have to serve well.  Sadly he needs to win more cheap points with the serve that Nadal does.  The longer the rally goes the better chance Nadal has.  Keeping these points short (and keeping errors low) will pay off big for Federer.
Good Luck on the Court!!!

So far Fed being fairly aggressive.  3-2, no breaks.  Nadal to serve.

Hi guys,

If you watched the 3-2 game, that was a bit of what I meant by the 2013-versions of Fed and Nadal.  at break point Fed had the easy forehand put away that he has been hitting phenomenally well until then, and he shanked it.  Two points later Rafa has the same forehand (but much lower, thus harder) and he puts it away and wins the game. I suspect we will see more of that as the set and the match progresses, especially on crucial points at 4-4, 5-4, 5-5, etc. if it gets there.

And, the backhand slice that gave Del Potro fits yesterday, is a breeze for Rafa.

The rallies are much shorter, so if it continues like this, like Scott said, physical condition should not be an issue.

I don't know what Federer is playing.
Always chooses wrong shot to play! That why I hate him now.

Fed had plenty of chances but couldn't take them at all so it was the right result.

Today I have just witnessed the most AGAINST THE ODDS victory of Nadal's career. For so long now I've been saying that beating Federer indoors and in particular at the World Tour Finals would be the most difficult accomplishment of Nadal's career. He did it today by converting 4 of 4 breakpoints. The World Tour Finals itself, is not an important event, in my eyes (when compared to the slams and Olympics), but to beat Federer here is the Mount Everest of tennis (for Nadal, because indoor hardcourt is his worst surface by far).

“It is not too far way,” Toni Nadal told The Australian after Nadal collected the 13th major of his career by mowing down Novak Djokovic in an electrifying final of the US Open. “It is getting very, very close for Rafa to be level with Roger or more.”

Yep, each player had 4 breakpoint chances, and Federer only converted 1/4. Not horrible, but not enough.

Too messy from Fed today.  He needs to be at the very top of his game to beat or hang with Nadal right now, and Fed just does not appear to have that gear these days.

The errors are creeping in at the wrong times for sure.  And Nadal running everything down and giving away almost nothing is not helping Fed's cause!

Not only was Fed's forehand missing too much, the backhand was landing short and in the middle of the court way too often.  That's Nadal's lunch right there.
Good Luck on the Court!!!

Djokovic absolutely hammered Wawrinka in the semi. Nadal must do everything himself....

Wawrinka is playing pretty well these days and much better average level than he ever has.

Just some remarkable gets from Djokovic, what movement he has.

The final should be good as usual between these two.

That is the worst I've ever seen Wawrinka play vs Djokovic. Djokovic just had to make him play, because this was Wawerror.

Final is fascinating, because if Djokovic loses, it will mean all these wins post-US Open were for nothing. It will show that no matter what Djokovic does, Nadal owns him in the big ones. Meanwhile Nadal has nothing to lose on his worst surface. Already a triumph (and a nice lead in the rankings).

4/4 on BPs for Raf.
A sure signal Fed unable to generate cheap points on serve at will.
After watching the match for the third time several things stand out to me-
Raf seemed to have the more effective overall serve.
I'm confused as to why Fed thinks it's feasible to play multi-shot rallies with Nadal after all these years and the pizz poor results of that tactic.
Fed's FH looks like it will never be the consistent weapon it once was.
Both players continue to move extremely well, even this late in the year. :scared:
CONK da ball!!!

Yep they are both moving well. Nadal has done well to avoid marathons in the post-US Open events, and has reaped the freshness from that. Federer always looks fresh. Remember when Federer won 26 matches in a row from late2011-early2012? Insane. Nobody has ever had better year-long stamina than Federer. In that regard he's kind of the opposite to Nadal, as Nadal almost always looks tired in the 2nd half of the year.
