Happy New Year - & Tennis Resolutions
« on: January 01, 2005, 09:03:04 AM »
Happy 2005 all!!!  I hope you had a great 2004 and will have even a better 2005!

In 2005 I plan on:

1.  Shaking these extra 5-10 pounds.

2.  Hitting the weights 4-5 times per week (light weight so it will not bother my shoulder for tennis, which is what has kept me off the weights

3.  Improving me return of serve in dubs

4.  Play more dubs

5.  Make Tennis4you a better site
Good Luck on the Court!!!

Yeah, I miss DK, I am not sure what is up with that.  I called him out on the fake username post.  I have hopes he will be back for the AO talk.  He was never necessarily happy with the board switch, rightfully so, he had 800 posts at the last forum, but I know he can catch back up here!

1.  Run a minimum of 3 times a week for at least 25 minutes.

2.  Don't eat in the middle of the night.

3.  Write.

Write?  You should write some instructional articles and put them in the Lesson Lounge at Tennis4you.  :)

Running would be good for me too, and we have a treadmill next to all the weight stuff in the basement.  Bores me though, but it would help!

Well, my friend has managed to drag me back into running cross country again next year so it looks like I'll be running again to get back ins hape for that. but one of my resolutions as far as tennis is concerned is to also do short sprints to improve my speed so that I don't slow down any...that's just a lil tip one of our school's athletic advisors gave me.

Also, I would also like to try to play more doubles becuz, altho I hate it, I believe it'll improve my singles game as well and that's a huge plus.

My other two resolutions are to start going to serve a basket of balls every single day. I Can't nececsarily hit everyday becuz its hard to find someone but I wanna be on the court everyday even if its just serving becuz I want my serve to improve.

And something that's less specific but encompasses a lot of things, I want to just do whatever it takes to improve my game. I hope that you guys will be patient and open to my many questions but I'm really going to start trying 2 do whatever I can to get better...my ultimate goal for the year is to either win State or win a usta santioned tournament.

Oh yeah, I forgot that another GOAL of mine, not necessarily a resolution was to make top 30 in my state. I ended 04 at 54 and this is the highest Ive ever been. Last year, I ended the year at 123 so this was a drastic improvement for me. And I want to move even higher this (2005) year...into top 30 would be ideal for me.

Ok...I know I'm rambling. I'm done

my uncle has a sweet set up.  right in front of teh tread will is a tv and about 150 dvds of tennis matches.  the good stuff, borg lendl mcenroe, sampras, agassi.  bring a small tv down and watch some tennis as you run.  lol dont forget that you are running though, and dont try swing ing you arms imitating service motions while you are on the treadmill . . .you will fall off and hurt yourself.  trust me on that one.

OK, new year's tennis resolution. Well I wanna stay on the path that I've been on as far as weight loss is concerned....holidays didn't help but a few weeks of hard work should get me right back.

I wanna get down to about 210 or 215....I have a body style of a mountain man so there is no way I'd get down to 180 or 190 (I think my bones wiegh more than that). So thats about 20 pounds left to go.

I'm going to hit tennis balls every weekday morning in the racquetball rooms at the college athletic building. I will work my speed drills in there too until it's nice out.

I need to continue working out in the gym...leg strength puts a tremendous amount of pace on my shots. Definately noticable after two weeks off I have definately lost some pace on my serve.

The big thing I want to do this year is work on my match strategies....start playing with my head. The mental game is the biggest obstacle for me and I want to get past this. Especially since I only get to play one season of College Tennis. I really want to do well.

I've switched to a one hander for my backhand this past year and I really wanna improve that. I hit the wall the other day and the backhand was doing really well. I have some decent touch as long as I hit the ball in front of me more than I did for the two hander.

I need to remember to always move forward on my shots....I tend to sail forehands high and long because I don't move into the ball....My arm does but my body doesn't....figured that out the other day and played much better when I fixed the error.

I think that's enough for one year.....in the future I want to run a tennis club....indoor and outdoor courts, with a shop inside...its' a dream.

Good luck with your goals!!

A couple things for that last post.

Good catch on the backhand, the one-handed backhand has a contact point about 12-18" out further than the 2 handed backhand, so you need to hit the ball out in front more.

I used to hit in a racquetball court too, it works pretty well until you bash your racquet on a side wall.  :)

I am 1/2 way done reading Timothy Gallwey's book "The Inner Game of Tennis", I recommend it for the mental side of things.

Also check out the Lesson Lounge at Tennis4you.com and go to Tennis Warrior's articles, Tom deals with nothing but the mental side of tennis, he is great!

To hopefully win the lottery, quit my job, and go to as many tennis tournaments throughout the world as possible.

I'm still waiting for ESPN Classics or TTC to air a classic Lendl match.  It's like they're deliberately trying to deprive me of that crazy Czech bastard.

Scott, yeah I'm a "screenwriter."  But I hardly ever write.  Blame a lot of that on my hectic job in reality TV, but still.  So I'm going to start writing more.

My daddy is Charles Lindbergh???  Actually, not much.  Hopefully in a year or two I'll be a highly paid Hollywood writer.  Hopefully.  My laziness is a bit of an obstacle.  Tennis is the only thing I can do anytime, anywhere.  Love it.  Everything else is a battle.
