Scott, something's not working right...
« on: January 01, 2005, 07:37:36 PM »
I don't know if it's because I'm on a Mac but I can't go to a specific page of a thread from the Forum.

For example, the String for a Geezer thread is 2 pages long now.  But if I hit "2" page 2 doesn't load, page 1 does.

Is anybody else having this problem?

Interesting, I will ask the phpBB2 experts on their forum.  I am not havign this problem at all.

Are you clicking on page "2" once you are in the subject or before you enter the subject?  Does the word "next" work?

When I click it from inside the subject, it works.  But when I'm in the forum, where I can see all the topics (on that page), and I click on page "2", it goes to page 1 anyway.

I'm using Safari on my Mac.  Maybe that's why???

lol, this was his response, I have no clue what it means, but what browser are you using?

Quote
His browser handles order of links differently. Those links are clickable, but also cell is clickable. When you click on link in IE/Mozilla/Opera8 link has higher priority than cell below that link. Opera7 and possibly whatever that uses uses give cell higher priority so when he clicks on any link inside cell javascript of cell is executed first so he is taken to first page. What exactly browser is he using?

I'm using Safari, a Mac browser.

Wow, could his explanation be any more technical?

They freak me out sometimes with the technical words, but I am getting a good handle on this forum.  I made almost no modifcations except to the skin, so the problems on this forum should be minimal.  My biggest concern is if I am ever forced to switch hosts, I just like everything to be seamless.

I was wondering what you meant the first time when you said you were using Safari.

Interesting progress, he told me to delete a line in the code.  I asked him if that would disable the numbers on in the forum for everyone while browsing topics.  Here was his reply...

Yes, it will disable it for everyone.

Alternatively you can ask that user to click on arrow icon on the right column that will always point him to last post in thread.

And the most interesting issue about it is that Safari is 100% correct - cells should have higher priority than link. Other browsers ignore standards and apply priority in opposite order (even Opera switched to incorrect mode. probably because lots of people complained about issues similar to those clickable cells)

Interesting thought.  Maybe you could bust on the arrow all the way to the right, it is the little itty bitty one on the right hand side of each post under the name of the last poster...  Thoughts?

Yeah, clicking the arrow way on the right is working fine.  Problem solved.  I'll just start clicking that from now on. :)
