He almost got another scalp today too. Monfils had match point against Fabrice Santoro in the third set, but finally lost 7 games to 5 after hurting himself in the final game.
Sounds like he's going to be interesting: the Eurosport commentators reckoned he served like Roddick (although not as strong yet), better off the ground, quicker and has more touch.
He's only ranked 239 at the moment (will be up another 20 places next week), so he won't get direct entry to the AO by right. However, Tennis Australia have a wildcard agreement with the FFT, so that one(?) young French guy gets to play in Melbourne, and the favour's returned for Roland Garros. Perhaps Monfils will get this WC.....
