Monfils off to a nice start!

He took out Gaudio in straight sets.  Now Gaudio is no Safin, Agassi or Fed, but he isn;t bad.  Nice win and hopefully boost of confidence for Monfils!

yeah uts a good win, i want to see if he can live up to his potential.  a lot of pressure on that young man.   ;>)

I was just reading an article online about tons of junior #1 players get lost in the mix and never live up to any potential.  But they feel Monfils is the exact opposite and they have high expectations for him.

I wish I could of seen his match against Gaudio yesterday.  I guess he gave Hewitt some trouble last year too?

I am sure I will get my chance to see him play with the big boys.  Is he playing the AO this year?

He almost got another scalp today too.  Monfils had match point against Fabrice Santoro in the third set, but finally lost 7 games to 5 after hurting himself in the final game.  

Sounds like he's going to be interesting: the Eurosport commentators reckoned he served like Roddick (although not as strong yet), better off the ground, quicker and has more touch.  

He's only ranked 239 at the moment (will be up another 20 places next week), so he won't get direct entry to the AO by right.  However, Tennis Australia have a wildcard agreement with the FFT, so that one(?) young French guy gets to play in Melbourne, and the favour's returned for Roland Garros.  Perhaps Monfils will get this WC.....

Almost beating Fabrice is a good showing for somebody so young and experienced at the ATP level.  Santoro presents all sorts of things that most players have never seen before so this result bodes will for Monfils.
