SF! win over Sampras at RG should be discounted since it's Pete's worst surface. (1) it was, after all, the semis, as opposed to an early round match; (2) of the three, only Kafelnikov won slams on both hard and claycourts*. If winning RG isn't such a big deal, then why do many slight Pete for never having won it????
*Rafter's two slams came on the same surface (USO).other*Rafter's 2 slams came 12 months apart ('97, '98)
Kafelnikov's 2 slams came nearly 3 years apart ('96, '99)
*testimony to Kafelnikov's staying power on the tour
