Any games we can play?
« on: January 09, 2005, 09:55:16 PM »
Anyone know of any games we can play for the AO?  I have never done this nor competed in any.  I do not want to do a complicated one, just something simple.  Something like guess how far in the draw the seeds will make it.  1 point for each one you get right or something stupid like that?

I have no clue, need help yos!
Good Luck on the Court!!!

hmm..

a good one is to do a playoff round pool... I do it myself for every
slam.  print off the draw and pick a winner all the way to the final
before the first ball is struck.

1st round - pick winner in each match get 1 point
2nd round - pick winner in each match get 2 points
3rd round - pick winner ... get 3 points
4th round - pick winner ... get 4 points
quarter round - pick winner ... get 5 points
semi round - pick winner ... get 6 points
finals - pick winner ... get 7 points

too complicated I suppose.

Itīs a 128 draw, so we can all pick 5 players, the person that got more players into the final four wins.
Keep it simple.

Hmmm...

What if we go with the top 16 seeds?

Guess what round they will lose in.

1 point for each correct answer

Winner has the most points.

Would anyone else play that besides me?  Is it lame?  I am just looking for ideas.  I would like to see if we can get a tradition going here.

I like that idea.  We need to get the draw first before we pick the rounds the players fall in.

January 14th, I believe. I think I read that somewhere but I'm pretty sure that's when the date was.

I can get it that day if no one else does...

This isn't game-related, but it does pertain to the Australian Open. I don't know if anyone has talked about this, but there's a Classic Moments section on the website with clips of previous matches.

Good stuff.

Those were fantastic, I think I posted that link right before you got here, but for the newer people they can see it now.  I sat and watched them all in one sitting.  They were great!

Yeah, I watched most of them almost immediately. The ones I connected with were the ones I remember actually watching -- like Agassi/Sampras, Martina /Jennifer, Kim/Serena. Talk about edge of my seat!

Kim and Serena was great.  I remember standing on my coffee table rooting for Serena when that went down.  What a great match.

I remember being bummed as Agassi took out Sampras too.

Sampras defeated Courier in 1995.  It was pretty emotional even for the viewer!

But pre-1991 I saw no matches, so nice to see some older ones!  As soon as I saw those I went to the other slam sites looking for more, but I couldn't fnd any.

I thought Serena was out of it. Down 5-1 in the third set against a top player? No way she could have come back. But I sat there and witnessed it.  She barely escaped the first round 7-5 in the 3rd, overcame two match points and a 1-5 deficit in the semis, and was within two games of losing the final. Too bad the clip only mentions that it was her first Oz title (and not that it capped off the SERENA SLAM).

:lol-sign:

With Agassi and Sampras, I have to admit I'm more of an Agassi fan. Maybe it's because of his personality, maybe it's his game, maybe it's his 'risen from the ashes' comeback. Anyway, it was a great match (better, IMO, than the anticlimactic U.S. Open final a couple years ago).

I was never that big of a fan of the US Open match they played that went all tie-breakers.  Now the last one they played, i was pumped.  Best match ever, mainly because he hit 14 slams and went out in style.  The man...

Watching Serena fight off two match points, and at least one of them at the net with a semi-diving volley.  I will never forget that.  Probably the best comeback I have ever seen on the women's side.
