Instructional section?
« on: January 10, 2005, 01:51:01 PM »
One of my biggest gripes with other message boards is that you can scroll down the list of forums for about an hour before you reach the bottom of the list.  And most of those forums are not used, just the few main ones are used.

But I was wondering if I should start an "Instructional" section here.  Or do you think that I should just keep it all in the "Tennis Discussions" forums?

I am up in the air about it, I need your thoughts...

I think that is a great idea!!!, I for one could use some good tips from people on this board, plus it is good to keep the two separate. :H

I think a thread here and there would be more useful than another forum, because many of the boards (not just tennis) that I frequent have a million forums with hardly any posts. However, if you think it's a popular subject for the visitors here, by all means create another section.

That is the thing BBB, I think your thought agree with mine.  I almost want them in here because more people will see them and more people can respond.  I do not know how another forum would do in here.  I kinda like it here where I know the traffic is.

I just hope people know they can post any question in here, we will answer it!

BTW, speaking about other forums...have you ever had forums for the slams?

No I haven't.  You like that idea?  Or should we just make a topic and make it a "sticky" post to stay at the top of this forum?  My only concern is that once the slam is over I would need to delete that forum where as a thread would just fade to the later pages.  If I delete a forum I would lose the number count on the posts here.  Usually that is not a big deal, but since we are new, I want this forum to look used (not that it isn't quickly filling up nicely!)

Thoughts?

What some admins do is create an Archives forum for all the old/memorable threads. If you did, they'd still be on the board and easier to access.

Not sure about archinginbv here...where's Phillip when ya ned him :).

Anyhow, I think making a sticky for Instructional would be better. Even, perhaps, just stickying the Slam topics while the tournament is in effect and then unlocking it so it can fade away once its over.

Not sure if that works or not but that's just my thot..

That is probably what I will do for the slams.  Maybe a sticky for the WTA and one for the ATP.  I would sticky an instructional thread, but it would get too big and just take up the top spots.

Sounds perfect.
