I. Off the top of your head, how long does the typical[/b] Best of 5 Sets match last? To be clear, a Best of 5 match could go 3, 4 or 5 sets.

II. Based on your response to (I), do you think it's overly burdensome for networks to cover Best of 5 Set matches?

Very tough to say because it would be much longer on Clay compared to Grass and also whether it's baseliners playing or all court/ volliers playing. But I'd say getting on for 4 hours in a 5 set match but if your talking about it ending in 3/4/5 sets I'd say an average would be about 3 hours.

I knew 2005 USO had several 5 set matches, so I thought it would be a worthwhile starting point in determining the length of the typical Best of 5 Sets Match. I looked at the final 31 matches, i.e., all 16 3R, all 8 4R, all 4 QF, both SF and the Final. Here's what I found:

1. 13 5 set matches (42%)
2. 12 4 set matches (39%)
3. 6 3 set matches (19%)
4. the longest match was 4:32
5. 3 matches (10%) equaled or exceeded 3:30
6. the shortest match was 1:34
7. 5 matches (16%) equaled or were less than 2:00
8. 11 matches exceeded 3:00 (35%)
9. 20 matches equaled or were less than 3:00 (65%)
