If you were Henin-Hardene in the finals of the AO, what would you have done?

Retire. Better to lose 6-1, 2-0 than 6-1, 6-0.

If you're Henin, why would you give a s**t whether Mauresmo gets to "celebrate"? Especially not if it's against you.

Play it out, an upset stomach is not grounds for retirement when your oppoent is 3 1/2 games away from winning her first slam. Had Justine been winning say 7-5, 0-2 you think she would have retired? Play it out.

From Justine's point of view (you can see how similar her and DK probably are) she probably does not want to give Mauresmo any more confidence than she will pull from this title win. She is by the way, future competition. But I still think as a person Justine should of fought it out and played even if she knew she was too sick to make a comeback.

I love how Scott worded this poll -- implying that Justine was somehow not gracious for retiring. I've been to some other boards and people are really giving Justine s.hit for this. If it was simply an upset stomach I really have to question why she would stop, but considering how tough she has been throughout her career and soldiering on in spite of her various ailments, I have to think she knew what was best for her body.

Even down 1/6, 0/2 I'd still believe I could win the match even if I did have a problem. I'd tell myself 'Come on Chris, a good hour here and I may win another Grand Slam and then I can have a few weeks off' I would fight until the absolute end and never ever give up, if I retired or just played it out for a loss I wouldn't be able to look at myself as I would be so ashamed of what I had done. I never ever want to lose so I couldn't face the fact I was going to pull out and lose or not really try too much and lose but complete the match, I'd have too much fighting spirit and pride for that.

I have no idea, I've never been Justine Henin. Further, I'd suspect you're lying if you answered that you were, in fact, Justine Henin and playing in the finals of the AO.

Maybe she'll wind up in the hospital on her deathbed and everyone could feel better about themselves.

Scott, since you obviously feel so passionate about this subject, why don't you publish an article and ask for feedback on the site in which it is posted. I'd gladly shred it to tiny bits... That's what I would do.

I am not passionate about it, just a subject of discussion. You seem far more worked up about it than I.

if it was only an upset stomach shame on justine for retiring at the grandest stage. i find it hard to believe she could play a match taht she needed IVs in 03 and not be able to play bc of an upset stomach here. ive played 4 hours matches during the summer with about 80% humidity wtih dehydration and the works and still finished the match bc you dont retire unless u have to

My feeling on this is that if Justine was THAT sick ,she would have dashed off to the locker room and not stuck around for the rewards ceremony.

She was seen carrying both of her tennis bags by herself to the car. Wouldn't that have hurt her tummy?? Her ego is so inflated - as the press conference proved. Here is a question that no one brought up.......where is the husband, Pierre Ives??? Nowhere to be seen during the two weeks. Hmmmmmmm.

I heard that he stayed in Belgium- haven't got a clue why that is the case during a Grand Slam as he doesn't actually do much if life other than sit in the players box supporting Henin.

I remember hearing that he was getting his pilot's license or something like that. Or was that Martina's mom? One of them.
