Australian Open 2005 Game
« on: January 13, 2005, 06:32:30 AM »
Ok, the seeds have been released for the AO 2005.  This will be the thread we will play the game in.  You will be allowed to edit your messages in this thread until the first match of the AO starts and then I will lock it down.  The results will be posted after the slam.

Rules:

You must determine which round each of the top 16 seeds will lose in.  (Or win if you deem someone the winner of the tournament)  If you guess right you will win 1 point.  The person with the most points wins.

I have considered awarding 2 points for guessing right and 1 point for guessing wrong and only being 1 round off.  Does that sound like more fun?  If you have any additional suggestions I am definitely open to them!

Here are the seeds.

1. Roger Federer (SWI)
2. Andy Roddick (USA)
3. Lleyton Hewitt (AUS)

I think I'll wait until tomorrow when I can see who's in Federer's part of the draw.

Scott, did you realise you picked 3 losing semi-finalists and no runner-up?  :))

By the way, there is a very similar game online run by Ed Toombs at http://www.tennis-ontheline.com/gsc/gsc.html

sweet, 3 semi losers eh?  lol, I guess I will not be winning at least one point.  :)

I will be adjusting this as we go until the AO starts I am sure.  Heck, who even knows if Agassi is playign now.  :(

This sounds fun.  I will do my picking soon.  I have a feeling, though, a withdrawal or two might occur before the Open starts.

I agree.  Rhubarb made a good point too with waiting to see where people landed on the draw.  I was just anxious to get it started.  Hopefully everyone knows that these messages are very easy to edit and I hope people edit their choices as people withdraw.
Good Luck on the Court!!!

As long as nobody edits after play starts, that sounds fine to me!

Good point about Agassi, and that's a shame.  I expect there may well be a couple of withdrawls before Monday.  At least if seeded players withdraw, Stepanek and others who narrowly missed seeding will get their chance instead.

I'm not going to pick women, by the way, as I have absolutely no idea about them.  Well, maybe I'll just go with the seeding - at least I'll probably get some points that way  ||-|

This looks like a good game. I will also wait for the draws and maybe close to the start of the event. Agassi is now questionable. J. Johansson hurt his hamstring, but I think will be ok. Davenport has a bit of bronchitis, but should be ok.

Since they start play late afternoon Sunday US time, I am assuming we can make our picks Sunday morning when we should know if any big names pulled out.

Also, what if a top 16 seed pulls out? Are we just going with 15 players then?

Arc-you gotta fix your picks- Fed and Agassi are in the same quarter- they can't both make the semis!
