OK.  ESPN SERIOUSLY NEEDS TO GO TO HELL.  THEY ARE SHOWING SPORTSCENTER ON ESPN1 AND SOME STUPID POKER SITCOM INSTEAD OF ANDRE AGASSI'S FIRST ROUND MATCH LIVE ON PRIMETIME.  WELL, F ESPN!

I dunno Scott. Federer looked a bit rattled out there during the end of the 1st set/ Beginning of the second set. That's all I saw of the match but Federer kept going back and forth w. Santoro. I know that's the effect he usually has on all players so for the Fed to struggle w. it shouldnt be surprising but u expect the brilliance fo Federer to dominate anyone, frankly. It was just surprising to see him struggle a tad..even if the score still looked otherwise.

I know. What the heck is up w. that? Their schedule said they would be showing matches from 11pm -- 2am today (Sunday the 16th). Ughur...ESPN is really starting to piss me off as well.

Both Federer and Agassi won pretty easily. We've been talking about Moya's disappointing results, and up to this point he's down a set and 4-1 to Garcia-Lopez(!).

The reason ESPN2 is not showing Andre live at the moment is because they moved up their three hours of coverage from the usual 11:00 PM EST time to 7:00 PM EST for this Sunday evening and next Sunday evening.  My paper lists if correctly as well as the ESPN site.  With the NHL shut down ESPN thought many tennis fans back east would welcom the earlier time.  Andre will probably be seen at 2:00 PM on Monday.  This earlier move proved a good idea since they had Serena and Roger matches both complete since they were lopsided.   In fact they stayed an extra five minutes on the air.

Lucky for me I have Federer/Santoro on my Tivo, and I'll probably keep it there for a while.

I've only watched the first set so far and, I've gotta tell you, I don't know if I've ever seen so bad an ass whooping between two legitimate top 50 players.

Kevin Kim beat Hyung-Taik Lee in five sets.  This must have been the first time two Koreans have met in a Grand Slam match.  Kevin Kim is American, but still.

Gael is already proving himself to be a solid tour player.  Ginepri is no joke on hard courts.  Ahhhh, to be 18 and winning your first Grand Slam match under the bright Australian sun... Lucky bastard.

Qualifier Bjorn Phau lost in the last round of the qualies, so why did he get the chance to beat Costa, setting up a second rounder against Mario Ancic.  That is going to be an entertaining match.  Phau is a little German Asian guy, about 5'7" or so, and he swings for the fences on every shot.  When he's on he's just ripping winners left and right.  It should be in interesting contrast to Mario's smooth all court game.

Federer's match against Suzuki should be hella good, too.  Those Japanese guys grow on you.  Every year at the US Open qualies there they were, these really friendly players who looked like they were enjoying every minute on the court.  Great sportsman.  It's hard not to cheer for them.

Baghdatis plays Ljubicic next round.  Baghadatis was the number one junior in 2003.  They showed one of his matches at the US Open and he seems to have a Guga-like, smiley joy for the game.

Looks like Agassi slid through very easily winning 6-0 in the 3rd.  I didn't hear the final results from Moya's match yet, but how disappointing...

Fed did struggle at the beginning of the second set, but it was still a raping.  He won the first 12 points of the match.  He was never in trouble.
Good Luck on the Court!!!

I didn't know Monfils laid the smack down last night...

In other matches, world junior champion Gael Monfils made use of his wild card with a magnificent 1-6 6-3 6-4 7-6 (8-6) win over American Robby Ginepri.

Moya is out guys-  I cannot believe he lost to a fellow Spaniard (he had won 15 straight against compatriots) and to a qualifier no less.

Oh I like Davenport, but as I said in the other thread, there's something in me that loves it when the favorites lose early.

When the favorites loses in the first round..Then the tournement is not so interesting to me ://

This Labadze cat is very intriguing. I think I might actually watch this match cuz he seems like a pretty tricky player.

Arc - This Labadze dog (hee) is one smooth dude.  I am impressed.  I hope this match goes the distance, it could be a good one.  I doubt it though.

Roddick vs Labadze - 5-5 in the first set and I am exhausted, I wish I could stay up and watch.  I bet Roddick is crapping a load in his pants right now and didn't expect this.

AHHH phooey!  I was hoping to see Roddick lose the first set and work to win this one.  He won the first set 7-5.  The other guy has 40-15 serving at 5-6, we should of gone to a tie-breaker.  Nerves?
Good Luck on the Court!!!
